I want to apply for a citizenship certificate for my son. He was born in the UK; I am Canadian by birth, and my husband is British. We currently live in the UK.
I've downloaded the application form, and that all seems quite straightforward to fill in (much less scary than UK official forms actually!)
However, I have a couple of questions for those in the know...
1. How long do these things normally take to turn around? The website seems to suggest anything up to 2 years (wowzers, does it really take that long?) And will the Canadian authorities hold on to our supporting documentation for long after the application is sent in? I don't like the idea of being without things like birth certificates for too long.
2. I'm a bit worried about the supporting documentation bit - I can send his birth certificate and mine, no major problem there (provided they're sent back in reasonable time). But as for other identification for our son - he is only 9 years old, and so doesn't really have anything ID wise except for his UK passport, which I don't want to be without for long in case we do need to travel, obviously. What other proofs of ID are there for kids?
