Hi All,
We applied for pr in June 2019 and did our medical on june 2020.
My son is almost 4yrs old and have high functioning autism (ASD).

I tried to ask my consultant and the clinic that we did the medicals about if we can get refused because of it but i didn't receive clear answer.
Please advice.
Thank you !
99% chances you will get Medical clear under the policy launched in Dec 2018. Your medical process may take few months extra to be process, may be 3 to 4 months but there is nothing to worry with autism.

Hi everyone,

Thank you all for sharing.

I am currently in the process of applying to go to Winnipeg as an international student but my 5 year old daughter was recently diagnosed with ADHD and Echolalia. We are planning to bring her along to take advantage of the special edu. we lack in our country. Specialist who diagnosed our child said that the only things that she will need are speech therapy, special ed teachers and the medication for ADHD is optional ( some parents disagree due to side effects ).

my questions:

1.Any possibility my application be refused due to my daughter condition ?

2.Is the Canadian special ed programs good in Elementary schools?

3. is there any other forum for similar to my question? Potencial future international student with disabled dependent.

Thanks a Bunch!

Hi everyone,

We are on the same both. We just finished the medical and we are planning to submit our application this month. I have a strong faith and hope that the 2018 new laws and procedures will apply for everyone here. We are CEC applicants too and I have 3 kids, one of them has autism. We have submitted all the necessary docs we have on hand such as report cards in Canada, and the docs we submitted when we first came to Canada (the Dev Ped report, Psychologist report, school report and the OT report). The doctor photocopied all docs I brought with me and told me that she is going to submit all docs and just in case IRCC requests for additional documents, they will reach out to me. I am hoping for a positive result as my kid attends regular school with IEP intervention.

I know and I understand the worry of each parent/guardian here so I decide to share mine to encourage you all not to worry and pray and hope God will do all the rest.
Hi Jasmin,
All the best for your application. Your ASD kid born in CA? We are oultand PNP applicant and my only son who is 3.5 years old has some trait of ASD according to his preschool teacher's feedback.
But our medical is already passed and our application is already finished by the time we knew this.
Now we have consulted with Specialist and told us that to let my son get some therapy or group to train as my son is high functioning and he will do fine.
Specialist asked us to come back again after a year , then we will see whether to test for Autism .

So, we are now starting my son with therapy and intervention, once our Visa has approved and the border restriction lifted, we will relocate.
Then we will continue his therapy or assessment there .
Do you think that's a good idea ? What do we need to prepare? Can my son get government support for IEP ,therapy , etc?

Thank you in advance , sis

Hi Jasmin,

Hope all is well.
Good questions, I am especially curious too if you notice my questions posted earlier. I know someone will eventually give me feedback.

I would really like to know what type of intervention programs schools in Canada to assist Kids like ours?

I contacted a couple of speech therapy centers in BC and they all have a waiting list. Anyone know if this waiting list is more or less the same for the entire country?
Is there a specific insurance we can get to help us cover these expenses?

If Canada rejects our application, what other country can we apply to immigrate legally?

God Bless!

Hi,
My AOR was Dec 31,2018 and we received the golden mail in Aug 9. One month and 9 days more than average. You can request GCMS notes to know in detail the status of the application
Hi,
I've seen in a different post that you already received your PR
Just wanted to ask since you submitted the medicals, How long it took that it will be passed ?
Thank you !

Hi.
1. Mine was approved wayback 2017, I was an international student and I added my kid with asd ( 8 yrs old) to my application. Now we are on the PR process.
2. I would say, cad education is far better than what expensive schools can offer in our country of origin. Cad culture in school is very inclusive for kids with special needs.
3. I am one of the proof.

No. My son came to canada ( temporary resident)when he was around 8 yrs. old.

I guess you have nothing to worry because you have already passed the medical.

I would say Canada is the best country for kids with special needs. Yes, you can do whats best for your kid while waiting for approval. Just make sure that when you come here, bring with you all necessary docs like dev ped report, therapist report etc.

Did the doctor who did medical exam declared that your kid has some issues? If so, doctor should have asked you to submit reports ( dev ped. Etc) if not, you just have to wait. If you are not sure what the doctor reported , better call med clinic, tell your situation then ask them what to do next. If the person u called cannot answer your question, request for a copy of medical report submitted by them to ircc. God bless!
