Application for Canadian Citizenship - A Comprehensive Guide

Question :
1) In Physical presence calculator the PDF,
states my 5 years eligibility is FROM 2016-03-29 TO 2021-03-28.
And my application date shows 2021-03-29,

2) Now when i fill my Form CIT0002e , questionnaire 9.a asks me to fill the TO date of my edibility and it calculates FROM date automatically.
So in my case as per the physical presence cal PDF data, I input the TO date in CIT0002 as 2021-03-28 and then the FROM date is automatically calculated as 2016-03-28.

The issue is the FROM date in physical calculator PDF is 2016-03-29 as opposed to the automatically calculated date 2016-03-28 in form CIT0002.
why is this discrepancy,??

The date your sign you application should be a day after your eligibility end date. So if you are going to sign it today, make sure your eligibility ends on the 11th (Print an updated calculation), and put the date of the application as the 12th.

Thanks for this. so we should sign the application with the next date. I have another question.
The online physical presence calculator shows 5 years eligibility FROM 2016-03-29 TO 2021-03-28.
Now when i fill the Cit0002 form question 9a. it asks me to manully fill the TO date of my eligibility, which i input it as 2021-03-28, but the form is automatically calculating the FROM date as 2016-03-28. This is FROM date differs to what is stated in the online physical calculator.
Any knows why ?

Question no 5: Have you ever used any other name (e.g. Alias, Nickname, previously married, etc.)? has been updated on October 2020. Should we leave it blank or write NA for people who's name hasn't been change since birth.

Hi @rajkamalmohanram, your efforts are much appreciated! I have a query and I believe you could help. I recently lost my wallet and with it my health card and driver's license. I still do have my G1 license with.. My passport is expired already (convention refugee). Can I instead, use my G1 and PR?

I'm not sure if you can use a G1 license. I haven't heard anyone using that before. You might want to check with others on this forum too to see if someone successfully used a G1 for their citizenship application.

Thank you for responding. I did call the IRCC and seems like G1 and PR are both acceptable ID's.

A G1 should be acceptable, the issue would be its validity. Usually, when you are issued a G or G2, the G1 becomes invalid.

I also have a diploma from a Canadian institute for my education. Now, that it's time to apply for citizenship, do you need to give your IELTS again? Does my Canadian transcript not enough proof?

Q1. the processing time is 12 months right now. However it's not guaranteed. Many people have been waiting for 2 years for their citizenship application. So, don't rely on that processing time for your future plans.

Q2. According to IRCC instruction guide:

Examples of the types of language evidence that can be submitted include:

1. You attended or are currently attending a secondary or post-secondary education program in English or French, either in Canada or abroad, including:
   1. A degree, diploma, certificate or official transcripts from a secondary or post-secondary education program showing you studied in English or French, in Canada or abroad

So, in your case, since you've studied in a Canadian institute, you can use your diploma as your language evidence. However, remember that academic IELTS is not acceptable as a language proof for citizenship purposes. You can only use General IELTS for this purpose.

I am a permanent resident and I wonder if there are any alternatives to the physical Presence. Also, what would happen if I decided to leave the country and come back in few years to meet the physical presence requirements and apply for the citizenship?

As long as you fulfill the requirements of applying for citizenship, you can always apply at any time.

So what happens to my PR Card thru the years? Let's say it expired while I'm outside the country, can I return back with the expired one or are there other requirements?
