Question regarding police certificate:

I arrived in Canada from the Philippines and became a permanent resident when I was 19. That was April 8, 2017. However, I visited my country of origin, the Philippines from May 11, 2019 to May 31, 2019. That was my only trip out of Canada. I wanna apply by August 10, 2020. Do I need a police certificate?

Thanks
In this specific case, since you were in the Philippines immediately before you established Permanent Residence in Canada AND IF you already submitted your Philippines Police certificate when you applied for your PR, then no, you do NOT have to submit a police certificate for Philippines along with your citizenship application.

thanks for letting me know!
@cat_woman

In your original question, you mentioned you were submitting IELTS report that you had obtained to get into University.

The following is mentioned in the Instruction Guide :

https://www.canada.ca/en/immigration-refugees-citizenship/services/application/application-forms-guides/guide-0002-application-canadian-citizenship-under-subsection-5-1-adults-18-years-older.html

Results from a third-party language test

International English Language Testing System (IELTS), General Training. You must have a score of:
  • 4.0 or higher in speaking and
  • 4.5 or higher in listening. (Note: If the test was done before November 28, 2008, we will accept a level 4 or higher)
Only IELTS General training is accepted from my understanding. If you took IELTS Academic for your university, then I don't think you can use it for your citizenship appllication.

OMG! How did I miss that in reading the guide? I had my old expired general training which I had used for PR but I submitted my academic one because it was recent and not expired. Is my application now invalid? Or are they likely to ask for a more document kind of situation? I can't believe I mad this blunder!

Well, I'm sorry about that.

If the application is returned is incomplete, then you would get a refund for the full fee. However, if they start processing and then determine that you have not submitted the correct document, then you will not get the processing fee back.

I am not quite sure if this will pass the initial completeness check and then go for processing or if they will consider this an incomplete application because of the wrong document. (I am inclined to believe the former, unfortunately).

Either way, you have to act fast. You can search the forum and find out what other people who submitted Academic IELTS did.

I wish I had caught this the first time around, would have saved you some heartache.

PS: Once you figure out something, please post here; So that others in a similar situation can benefit from it.

Hi everyone,

I have a question.
I sent off my application on Jun 13, and they've received it on Jun 18. But I just realized that on question 5, I only put my nickname done and forgot to put done my name at birth.
Will my application be returned? What should I do now?

Thank you.

Please do not feel so. I should have been more vigilant about my own application. I very much appreciate the help you have provided.

Yes, I immediately looked up and on other forums, people said to send a webform - case-specific inquiry asap which I have just done, gave my explanation in the webform, and uploaded a scanned copy of my IELTS - General copy. Once submitted the message was they will get back to me with my answers but if my case is within normal processing times then I will not hear from IRCC. My application is still in transit so hopefully, everything will be okay. I guess I can now only wait and watch and see what happens if they accept it or send back incomplete. I have done what I can from my end. Now just pray and hope for the best.

Yes if I hear back and know more I will post here again. Thanks again for your guidance in this situation. Much appreciated!

Ideally, it is best to add the name at birth for this question.

However, when you click on the '?' next to the question, you see the following :

We need to know all the names you have ever used in your life, so we can verify your identity. If you have used any other names other than the one being requested in your grant of citizenship application, print them in the chart. Examples: Name at time of birth, name before marriage, previous married names, married names, nick names or any other names you have used.
So, IMO (again... just my opinion), unless your name at birth was different than your current name, you should be okay here.

How time flies, I remember when the OP of this post was waiting for the lotteries like I was back in 2016. :D

Nice to see you again and a very timely sticky because I'm prepping for my application submission in November. How you doing, rajkamalmohanram?

LOL yeah. Feels like yesterday. I'm doing great, thanks. How about you?
All good, man - glad you landed on both feet too! :D

In the interest of keeping this on-topic, I had a question - how the dickens do you save the form in a way that doesn’t cause it to glitch out? For some reason, every time I’ve reopened the saved form after a few weeks to chip away at it, it looks like the Sections where you have that little plus/minus thing invariably get glitched and then I need to re enter stuff again. Done this twice now, to no avail so I was wondering what was up with it and if other folks experienced the same thing. I’m using Foxit Reader, for what it’s worth.

Hmmm that is weird. I never did have that problem once. The only thing that was off-putting to me is that the fields that disappear when you click on 'No' to a question reappear when you attempt to print the form. There is no way around it, you have to print the form with those empty fields and write N/A in those fields after the form is printed.

For the issue you are facing... Try using the latest version of Adobe Acrobat reader and see if it does the trick.

Yeah, the form is.... definitely not the best, but it could be worse (looking at you, Indian Government Forms.)

I'll give Acrobat Reader a go, too - thanks for the recommendation! It's been eons since I used it because it got so bloated o_O
