Hi,
I have a question about filing income taxes.
I sent my application in early January 2020 and had not yet filed my income taxes for the tax year of 2019 so I said that I was required to file for 2019 but did not.
I have now filed my income taxes for the year 2019 and I was wondering if I have to update IRCC about this or would they understand when they check with CRA?
Based on the below, my understanding is if you answered 'No' to 'Were you required to file taxes for XXX year', you should be good. Answering 'Yes' to the aforementioned question and answering 'No' to 'Did you file taxes for the year XXX?' doesn't sound right to me. You might want to explain this to IRCC clearly through webform. But check with others who might have been in the same situation before to see what they did.

Taxation years
For the purposes of the requirements, taxation years are the same as calendar years. For the physical presence calculation, no time before the relevant period can be counted. However, for the income tax requirement, the year that the relevant period starts can be used as one of the taxation years. The year the applicant submitted their application will generally not be counted, as taxes are not filed until the following year. Also, applicants who submit their application early in the calendar year would not have been required to file taxes yet for the previous calendar year.
