I have just paid the fee to IRCC and have received a letter confirming that my application has been received. I am however not sure of what happens next. Can anyone explain the process?

Hi Deepikaarora,

I am assuming that you have applied through Express Entry program and you have completed the document submission with feed paid.

The next step is that they will start reviewing the documents and update the status.

The first update would be most likely would be you medical test results. That probably might take 2 or 3 weeks before you see it.

Please keep checking your CIC login for any updates or inmail that you may receive. They might sometime request for any additional document or supporting documents. Though this is rare they might ask. They do normally send a inmail to the CIC account.

The entire process may take from 5 to 6 months for them make a decision on granting the PR.

At the end of it, you will receive a email or a inmail requesting for your passport. This process is called the PPR in short for passport request. You may have to send the passport through VFS if you are in India. Once you send they will stamp a single entry Visa on the passport and give you a one page letter name COPR (Confirmation of PR). This is the proof of being PR until your receive your PR Card once you land here. They will give you up to a year from when they stamp the visa to enter Canada. If you fail to do so then you may have to re do the entire process from scratch.

When you land here with the Visa and COPR, you can apply for the PR card and you may have to furnish a Canadian address for them to send the PR card. They do not send it to a international address. Once you receive your PR card that is your proof of PR.

If you have any further questions email me at vijaysundararajan@gmail.com

All the best!!!

Thanks Vijay,
I have submitted all the docs and then paid my fee. However I have an attorney working for me, so will I be able to see the updates on my application myself or will the lawyer get the updates? Do you have any idea?

Unfortunately you won’t have access to your account online as you have filed through an attorney. The online account isn’t as useful so you’re not missing much. So don’t worry. For now hang tight for 2-3 months. After that you can either call CIC to know status or better choice is to order gcms notes.
