Good day,

I applied for citizenship in July 2020, and nothing had been done until I filed for mandamus in June 2022, I was invited to do the test and the interview in August. But after this my application was on hold again until the judge asked the IRCC to send my complete file in March 2023, then the IRCC completed everything except Prohibition, they have not started the Prohibition verification yet. Even though the citizenship officer mentioned in his letter to the judge that I meet the residential requirement.

What do you think the next step will be. Your help is highly appreciated

Any idea what they do for prohibitions?
Is it just checking that you didn't have any bad answers in the application, or do they do some kind of a screening? And with which service? CBSA or CSIS, or something else?

I passed the test Feb 2022, and still waiting for any movement on LPP. ATIP says that the file is referred to level 2 processing with a deadline on April 1, but of course nothing happened. Supposedly the officer was not able to make a decision, and redirected it to someone more senior, but I am very confused about what is there so difficult to decide.
Other than prohibitions, it is all very straight forward. I haven't traveled between landing and applying, and my IELTS is the same I used for PR.

Has anybody tried talking to CTV or other media recently?

Also, for mandamus, how do you find a lawyer that knows how to file it with high chance of success?
Is it better to look for someone locally, or it doesn't matter if they are in another province?

Anybody still here?
I am thinking of going to press, getting a consultation with a lawyer, or both soon.
Any personal anecdotes about any of this? Or other steps you can take to get your application moving?

Hi.it is ridiculous to spend 4000 dollars to get citizinship.
You are wasting your money.
PR card is like citizinship with the exception of voting, and realy no need to vote.
I prefer to stay on PR and not waste 4000 dollars.
Some of us have a reason to need a citizenship that allows easier travel and doesn't tie you to a country that you don't want to be a part of anymore.
We could buy a citizenship somewhere for a few 100K, but mandamus sounds cheaper; a good thing to try before giving up on Canada that doesn't value our contributions, and trying to settle somewhere more welcoming.

Going to the press isn’t likely to get your application processed faster. If you have been waiting over 2 years you can apply for mandamus.

I heard some success stories with people talking to CTV, and getting progress on their applications immediately. Though there are a lot more cases where that didn't have any effect..

Also, the system obviously has lots of room for improvement. Bringing this about using pressure from media would be a good deed.

Complaining that you aren’t getting citizenship fast enough when most countries require you to remain in the country for 5-10 years before even qualifying may not get you much sympathy. Being able to travel easier than on your home country passport may not give you much sympathy from the public in a cost of living crisis. First of all you have access to everything but voting so I don’t think you can claim that Canada is not welcoming especially compared to other countries. Using the argument that you can buy citizenship from an island in the Caribbean for a few hundred thousands of dollars is also not going to get you much sympathy. Have you been living in Canada for decades? If you have only been living in Canada for 3-5 years I don’t think you can claim that you have made life changing contributions to Canada. Most people who plan on continuing to live in Canada are able to wait to receive citizenship or apply for urgent processing if they can prove that they need Canadian citizenship to accept a new job. If you have no intention of remaining in Canada then you will certainly not get much sympathy if you go public. If you have waited over 2 years then you can pay and file for Mandamus. You may end with similar processing times if you just wait it out and you will save yourself around 5k in the process.

Those are rare cases that are way out of the norm in terms of processing or cases. There are many cases where nothing is done. The story just indicates that IRCC has been made aware of the case. If your MP has already gotten involved there isn’t much more that will come out of a media story and you don’t have a compelling story. You are able to travel with your current passport. Your life isn’t significantly being affected by not having citizenship at the moment except not being able to vote. If you couldn’t visit a dying parent because you didn’t have citizenship yet then that would be a story that may result in some action.

You don't know anything about me, and my contributions, so you can relax with your fantasies. Some people can contribute a lot in 5 years, others have mostly negative impact on the society they spent 80 years in.
I am not looking for sympathy from these folks. I am expressing disappointment in being treated like an undesired visitor to be ignored and discarded at any opportunity.
I came to Canada on a promise of transparency of the immigration system and being treated with dignity. If I foresaw the way IRCC is evolving now, I might have chosen a different country. Now that I am pretty settled here it is more difficult, but I stopped recommending Canada to potential highly skilled immigrants unless they have no other options.
They play around with their idiotic metrics to make them look good, and they don't care about people's lives.

Not being able to easily travel for emergencies is a serious issue for me now, not even mentioning work and leisure travel. If an emergency comes up, urgent processing is going to take months, so it will be too late.
My PR renewal application is also delayed, thanks to IRCC.

Do you mind me asking how long has your PR card renewal been pending?

I heard that UK was processing citizenship applications in 8 months during covid, and Australia in 14. IRCC just took several months of paid vacation instead, and they don't feel like they need to process backlog. As long as we toss 20% in the backlog pile, we're good.

Since February, so not too awful. But my card expires in the end of this month.
When I applied for renewal, processing time was about 70 days, so I should have been safe but oh well.

In any case, why are you defending them so aggressively? Does your cousin work there? Or you feel some sense of loyalty to IRCC for some reason?
Some of this looked more or less reasoned, but some of what you said looks like a personal attack and weird baseless accusations.
