@ ghostrideryu, PPR&RPRF comes first. as I noticed, we get 'decision made' when passports are already processed.

I have to notice that ECAS is pretty useless since all status updates appear when you already got notified about further steps.

@strangersr, I know all that, and yes, we will be completely fine only when we land and pass immigration officers there. But, I don't want to think about that now, it's already overwhelming enough preparing to leave. :D

Omg strangersr, I'm happy that you exist cause I've been told that there's no one like me in the whole world. The only thing I haven't thought of or worried about in the whole process is that we could be sent back from the immigration office in Canada ::) Think positive, the only reason to send you back, as I heard, is lack of pof. As for the money, how will you take them with you, cash or? anyone checked the option to open account in Canadian bank and transfer the money there?

This money transfer is quite a big question mark.
Since I will travel first and rest of my family will come later I thought to bring all the money required with me where they will carry only 1000cad or something.

When it comes to money transfer I thought to bring only visa card with me while money is safe on the serbian account and to recover it from ATM there when needed. However I am certain that there is better way so would like to hear your proposals.

Also I would like to raise one more issue. Buying a car there will cause high insurance premium unless we provide some certificate that we did not had accident for past 5 years or so. However I do not know who should issue such certificate and in which form.

This is mayor saving opportunity so if there is anyone with details about it would be perfect if could share with us.

:P :P :P :P :P

POF certainly cannot be a reason to send you back. once you declared that you have enough money, they are done with you in that matter, since you will not be provided any financial assistance, if you'd need it in canada within first year, since you declared that you have enough to support yourself.

of course i am not thinking that this might happen, especially because i've never heard of such instances... i was just saying that they do not want to provide any certainty to us, as if we don't have enough of it throughout the whole process.

i am talking with two banks these days, looking for the best option. one has the option of opening account from abroad, transferring money and activating account once you're there. the only thing is that, once you deposit the money on that account, it automatically gets transferred into CAD on the day's rate. i just need to see what is the best conversion rate, maybe it would be better to change the money here, and deposit CAD. i need to check those thingies next.

i am planning to take just few bucks with me (make sure is US $ not CAD!!!), so i have it on me in case of an emergencies or something. the rest i am planning to transfer or take as travelers check or something.

Well strangersr, since you are going to Edmonton too, can you please search for the best bank option and money transfer and let me know :D and for the car, the certificate is issued at the insurance company, just tell them what do you need it for ;)

@ghostrideryu

i already contacted Alberta's driver licensing authority and they told me that from serbia, only thing it might help is to obtain a confirmation from POLICE STATION that you do not have previous history with them. in my mind, i think that's the same thing as the PC we needed to submit, but i will check with our police station if they know of any other document that might have similar content. when they issue that, stating for how long you hold your DL and have no history with them, you submit that to canadian relevant driver licensing institution and it can only give you some advantage, if i understood correctly, in terms that you do not have to wait in between periods to take driving exams with them. for example, there is firstly G1 license, which lasts for i think one year, than you have to take another exam, which lasts three years... and throughout that whole time, insurance is really high. i'm sure i did not explain this exactly how it goes, since i hold an american (US) dl, and all i need to do is turn that one in, and they will issue me a canadian one, with all the benefits as if i drove in canada for past 16 years. this way, i will issue insurance on my name for my husband too, until he gains canadian history.

@vikiwow,
i am looking at RBC and CIBC. i will let you know son of the terms.

The only valid source that can give you such info is someone who already passed this procedure or someone who lives in Vienna which can go to the embassy and clarify these questions with VO staff in person.
