hw is the city edmonton for new immigrants like us.... ????? i mean job, rent, groceries, etc.............

Hi benjamin,

I decided from long time before that i will not go to Toronto as i have heard that there is a surge of Immigrants there. On an average out of 10 immigrants, approximately 7 will go to Toronto. I got my PR through Alberta Nominee Program so anyway i was targeting for Alberta. Toronto is a good city sure but also depends on what profession you are. For civil engineering, Alberta is very promising due to oil and gas sector. Its expensive but not as expensive like Ontario. It will be very challenging for someone to live in toronto without a proper high paying job for a while. I had some friends before who had all their education and work experience from US and faced lot barriers in jobs in Ontario due to the percentage of immigrants already existing there. They were all from engineering field though. They later moved to Alberta and BC. I heard Toronto is good more for banking sectors but this not a hard and fast rule. The major problem with Alberta is its brutal winters.Groceries and other miscellaneous items pretty much costs same through out everywhere. The cost of apartments/houses, insurance and the taxes takes a major bite of the salary, which eventually becomes the key factor for consideration.

On the other hand Toronto has more survival jobs for new immigrants than other provinces no doubt. It can give you a good platform to land and then look for options should you feel. So its good that you have kept your options open to relocate if required.

thanx for managing time to rply............ i also heard that toronto is a gud option for new immigrants coz of availabilty of survival jobs.............
i m a single and even if i get married i m not going to take my wife for another year or two atleast.... so no problem for me to relocate anywhere in canada............
i am a trained accounts teacher but wants to change to accounting so i am eyeing on the course Certified General accountants as well as some diploma in accounting.......... and also for over few months i am working part time as accountant in a chartered accountant firm so that i can take up accounting job at entry level once i land...............

now brother what is ur opinion, regarding accounting job there in alberta as well as in toronto..........
bro u mean to say all other expenses like rent,tax,groceries, medical etc are same in both the places ......
