There is indeed the end to this process. It seemed it would never end. Things were not moving for whole year until 2-3 weeks ago. For those who are getting ready for medical exams be ready to spend around 300 dollars per person if in Canada because I was not quite aware of that. Since there were two of us we paid that around 600 dollars plus RMPF around 1000. It is still something that hits you at the end of this process. But it is sweet bitter slap.

I received my visa in June 25. I am going to land in the following Saturday in the US border. I hope the rest of you receive your permanent residency as soon as possible. I know it was 15 months of stress and concern. But finally it is done. I am so happy and thank you all for your supports and valuable information.

Do they check credit history as well .. I heard some people withdraw cash from credit card or other loans and show bank balance with that cash ... not sure how that works

They do ask for assets and liabilities. A credit card balance is a liability which needs to be reported.

"Medical results have been received" showed up in my ecas We did the medical 2 weeks ago.

Our medicals were done on 28 May and 6 June and were received by CPC-O by the 13th, but my eCas has not been updated. I emailed and asked if my medical report was received last Friday and received a reply today that it was received and was being reviewed, but still no update on eCas.

But i wonder what is the point to have more points after you passed the eligibility stage? I don't think it would make the process faster.

Faster is not really the critical issue. It's a pass/fail situation. If you're close and some points are subject to the whim of the interpretation of the officer, then more points (redundant ones) are beneficial because the consequences of an officer making an adverse decision can be avoided.

How did you know?? you are right, I just received the medical request today !!! I will go with the assumption that it was a mistake then , will prepare the money in the bank account but will not send them any POF until I get a reminder!

you still have 30 days after the final reminder. But if you had one or two occasions back home wedding or graduation, .. etc, all your friends and relatives can give you money to your bank account with written greeting cards. Let's say $3000 from your parents, $1000 from 3 or 4 of the, 700 from 3 or 4, 500 from 7 or 8, .. etc. you may get the whole required amount from them. it makes sense.

I found the following part on my univ. website with regard to the exemption of international fees. Note: It is located in SK.

4.2 DIFFERENTIAL TUITION RATE FOR INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS

Students who attend the University of XXX on a visitor’s visa or study permit pay 2.6 times the domestic rate of tuition (i.e., in 2009-2010, $364.00 per credit hour instead of $140.00 per credit hour). Undergraduate Visa students also pay an International Services Fee of $17.85 per credit hour. Other fees are the same as for Canadian students.

Students who attend the University of XXX on a diplomatic or work visa or minister’s permit pay the domestic rate of tuition.

A change in immigration status must be reported to Admissions in the Registrar’s Office. Students who are living in Canada as authorized workers or as part of a family unit dependent on an authorized worker, and who have applied for permanent resident status, may be charged fees at the domestic student rate. Students apply for this exemption at the International Student Success Office, and must provide the originals of all supporting documentation, which will be returned to them after a copy has been made.

Any change in tuition rate that results from a change of immigration status, or from an exemption as described in the previous paragraph, takes effect in the next semester starting after the effective date of the change of status or approval of the exemption.

This is interesting. So if you are under a work permit, and have applied for PR, then you can qualify for tuition differential exemption, but not if you are under study permit? I wish they would be more clear though on exactly what stages of PR application process would qualify students for domestic tuition rates.

Try speaking with the immigration advisor at your school, and see what he/she has to say about the matter. Ask for the exact ruling on what stage of PR application process would qualify you for domestic rates. Is it eligibility for PR, eligibility to apply for PR, or you must have the PR itself?

It's clear in your quote that "who have applied for permanent resident status, may be charged fees at the domestic student rate"." So, just go to your School of Graduate Studies, Admissions in the Registrar's Office to submit your PER.

The University of Toronto's fees also only have that sentence, and they reduced the tuition for PR applicants with PER.
