Hi,

I am a PhD student in my second year. I plan to apply this FSW PhD stream next year. I have a question about the proof of funds. I didn't have that much money in my bank account right now (only $6,000). But I can get some from my father, relatives, etc. Is it OK to borrow some and save in my account? How long time it should be saved, so that CIC will believe that those money is not borrowed from other persons? How did the seniors in this forum deal with this problem? I need your suggestions.

Thanks for your replies.
They require 6 months bank history, since you will be submitting next year (calender year or academic year ??), sit on the money and don't touch it and save it. So you pretty much have to sit on it for year + as submission, then PER, then POF request.Don't have large deposits coming in though. Or pay fees etc. in cash or through a friend and pay him through your parents. Your account thus will have the balance on an average still.

Plan ahead and as TyrusX said, it's not a good thing to borrow for CIC, so start saving.

You shouldn't "borrow" just to show CIC you have the funds. If your parents "grant" you money and you do not have to pay it back, that's a different story. Many here suggested that your parents can send you money with a document saying it's a "gift" from parents and it's yours to keep.

Today, I received proof of fund request via email for my first application. Does this mean they approved my work experience letters?

Congrats!!! It is indicative that they did actually approve it and realized mistake of documents was on their part.

Good to hear that! But there is no guarantee that your application was assessed against the selection factors, it was submitted in November so it is early to say they approved the reference letter.
BTW, Which department sent you the document request? This may give us a clue whether you passed the selection factors or not yet?

asbereth said:
If your document request was sent by FA01772, most likely you have already been assessed against the selection factor, and your eligibility is most likely pending proof of settlement funds. However, if it's some other department (for example, RK6165, or somebody else), then most likely they have only checked if there is something that can be done to speed up the process on your side (such as PCC or proof of funds).
Good luck!

Thanks for your reply. I will apply for FSW in April 2014, so there is one year to go. As CIC require only 6 months bank history, could I borrow (or get) some money and save it in my account 6 months before they require it? In the meantime, I can keep my balance smooth.

Then you have time. Just keep an eye on the website and see how many spots are left around that time. The cap is reset in May but who knows when it will be discontinued. Still get small deposits. Best of luck.

Thanks, yes they asked for cv and proof of funds. Since I had foreign proof account as well as Canadian, they did not accept the foreign funds and asked me to submit other documents. After I submitted all the requested documents, they rejected because of the reasons I mentioned in the first message!
1) Do I need to provide proof of fund from inside Canada only? I need to provide from back home to show sufficient funds for 2 persons on the application.

2) I have a Canadian child. Do I need to show ore funds, I mean for three?

You need to show funds for a family of 3...but you can show funds from Canada, your home country or a combination of both

Dang, I hope I was wrong then. Let's see it on CAIPS. You'll get them in 3 weeks. Let's hope for the best. And your eCas won't change after document request. Just because you have passed selection factor, it doesn't mean you have passed eligibility. To pass eligibility, you need to pass BOTH selection factor and proof of settlement funds (and maybe RCMP screening). After eligibility is cleared, admissibilities are initiated, and this includes medical (and PCC).
OK, thank you. Just to clarify---the only line I have is "We received your application for permanent residence on February 17, 2012". I was under the impression that the second line (processing) appears if you (a) get document request; (b) get rejected. Well, let's see what comes out of this.

The second line, based on what I understand, would be the day they start to initiate admissibilities check (or rejection). If you get a document request for proof of funds, it means your eligibility is not yet passed, and you won't yet have the second line. Again, just because Ottawa gives you more than 67 points, it doesn't mean you have passed eligibility. You also need to pass settlement fund requirement.

The reason why I said the RK6165 may only be responsible to issue you document request for those still missing maybe valid PCCs or POF is because I took a look at my friend's GCMS notes (he applied August last year, and he got requested to provide information about his PhD study), and it was only stated that they (RK6165) made the request for PhD info, but no assessment was made yet. Whereas, on my GCMS notes, FA01772 made the request for POF AFTER they made the assessment against selection factor.

But then again, they may have changed the process yet again in your case, since, based on when you applied, I find it hard to believe that they have not yet made any assessment on your file against the selection factor. On what date exactly you applied for GCMS, and on what date did you get document request? I hope you applied for GCMS less than one week before you got document request (if not, then apply once again for GCMS now)...

I agree that second line appears when they start PROCESSING your application. It means that your file is in the hands of a CPO and
(s)he is going to decide your fate. However, I dont agree that it wont show up untill they confirm your eligibility. You may get POF request, medical request or any other doc request once they start processing your application and your second line should appear. In my case, second line appeared at the time of POF request.
