Hello friends, just want to share my recent landing experience with you. I received our passports back on Oct. 30. Apparently I wasn't doing anything after that as my wife is still in my home country. (I was planning to go back during Christmas so that we could land together at the airport on our way back to Canada.) However, on Nov. 14, I received an email from the local CIC office in my city asking me whether I am available to attend the landing interview at their downtown office within next 2 weeks. It was very surprising to me because they initiated the correspondence (I did not call CIC to setup an appointment.) However, I felt that I should comply with them and agreed to attend the landing interview on Nov. 20.
My landing experience was very pleasant at that office. The CIC officer and all other staffs around were very polite, friendly and helpful. The officer congratulated me for becoming a PR. In fact she is also an immigrant from UK, so we shared some of our common stories. I took bank statements, employment letter from the university, newly taken pictures, permits but she did not want to check the documents. But she took the new photos and double-checked the mailing address with me. After signatures, she kept the CPR with my photo and returned me the one without my photo. She advised me to keep that CPR in a very secure place (but not to laminate) because it will be required when we apply for citizenship later. She also confirmed that the accompanying spouse can land later at the airport but I have to wait until I receive the PR card to travel outside Canada. She gave me a rough idea that it will take 19 business days but also asked me to check processing time in CIC website.
So my suggestion to those who are going to land in future is that: you might want to contact the CIC office in your city first (http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/offices/help.asp). You can go to them with your passport & CPR and ask for an appointment. Alternately you can call up CIC call centre (1-888-242-2100) or email them (question @ cic.gc.ca) to make an appointment. I know the common knowledge is that it takes a long time to set up a CIC landing appointment. But if you are lucky like my case or successful to manage an early appointment, then you can save some bucks on car rent/gas to go to the nearest border. At least it does not hurt to try this way first. I also think that inland landing is much easier and there is a very low possibility of facing rough experience or long waits like border landing. Thought this will throw a new idea to your plans. Many congrats to all of those who recently received MR & RPRF requests ;D. Good luck to you all who are waiting for MR and PPR
