Hello, I am in my last stages of my journey to canada ;D. Just awaiting my PPR.
I have a friend in Toronto around king street west. I am looking for apartments around the same area. I searched for a lot of apartments like Metcap, Minto, Wynn etc and looked up reviews for them. The reviews are pretty bad and many of them complain about poorly managed apartments, delay in maintenance, bug & mice problem etc. I also looked at viewit.ca and searched for apartments around the area. My budget ($800-$900) includes few apartments from the same property managers(Minto, Metcap etc).
I am very confused and need suggestions. Once a good apartment is located, i can ask my friend to have a look and examine it. Please give me few insights. :)

King Street West is a trendy and centrally located area - in other words, it's expensive. If your budget is only $800-$900 - then any apartment you'll be able to find for that price will not be that great and will have problems. If you want a nice 1 bedroom - you need to be willing to pay $1200 or higher. You have a few choices: (1) be willing to significantly increase how much you're willing to pay each month in rent; (2) be OK with a bad apartment with poor management; (3) find a different area to live in that is not in downtown Toronto. I suppose a fourth option would be finding shared living accommodations where you have your own room - but share the bathroom and kitchen.

try looking around Etobicoke or North York area it may be cheaper

King St seems downtown, very expensive place

Thanks a lot. I have a family of three(me, my wife and my daughter). Lets see how it goes.

If you are looking for a 2 bedroom, then $800-$900 in the King Street West area will get you a rat hole. You should look elsewhere - away from Toronto's downtown core. A nice 2 bedroom in King Street West is $2,000+ per month.

Hi,

I got my COPR yesterday...YAY!!!! :D

I was wondering how would a new immigrant go about renting an apartment, bearing in mind I have yet to find a job. would I get a 6 month lease? what type of documents would i need? Anyone can shed some light...I'm not interested in sharing accomodations.

I am in search of one bedroom apartment (my daughter is just 15 month old). I have found few apartments from Metcap living that are decent for the price of 850$. I hope its not that bad as a rat hole. ;D

Hi,

Is there anyone on this forum flying end of July to Toronto. Kindly post or PM me to discuss further.

I'm a single person and looking for anaccommodation assistance.

Regards,

Savnik

They probably aren't in the King Street West proper area of town if they are $850. If they are on King Street West, make sure they are east of Atlantic and not around the Dufferin Street area (the King West and Dufferin Street area is seedy). Or be prepared to live in a seedy part of town...
