Hello all! These forums have been insanely helpful in the whole sponsorship process so I figured I would see if anyone can share their opinion or experiences of being in Canada so far.

We are currently playing the application waiting game and, in the meantime, I google every possible immigration topic that I can find which has been helpful and hurtful. I came across a site that had a blog written by a PR (19yr old Cuban man) stating that he hates Canada and wants to go home. This got me thinking and worrying which is all I can seem to do while we wait for our sponsorship application to go through. So I am hoping some people here could help ease my mind or give me some insight.

A little history...my partner and I are both in our 30's. We have been in a solid relationship for almost 4 years. Tried to get a visitors visa for him when I was still in Canada so he could visit and check it out but he was denied. We have lived together in Mexico for the last 2 1/2 years. I have no doubt that we will make it through whatever comes our way no matter where we have to reside but I was hoping that some of you could share your firsthand experiences.

What do you like, what do you dislike, what are things that I can do to make the transition easier for my partner, ect? Really any information or opinions would be helpful. We would be living in Alberta. We have a home when we get there and jobs waiting so that aspect won't be a problem for us.

Thank you in advance for any help and speedy process to those who are waiting as well! :)

First things first, you're in your 30's, that dude was only 19. All I can say is once you arrive in Alberta search out some sort of Mexican community or cultural centre or other. My Filipina wife has a lot of Filipino friends and they have all sorts of picnics, outings, gatherings and the like. She evens makes jabs that Canada is her home country.

Good luck.

Thank you for the tip! I will definitely do that.
