Hello everyone
I'll be travelling with a small child (2.5 yrs old) and would like to know what all can one carry? Specifically- in medicines, food (packed essentials) and toiletries.
I've looked up the cbsa rules but I need some personal insights from those who've travelled with kids and know how tricky the luggage can be!

Thank you for your time

What's your length of stay? Do you have prescription to justify medicines? Why can't you buy the supplies in Canada?

Apart from CBSA this site is a good guidance if you have not seen http://www.catsa.gc.ca/liquids-food-personal-items

Length of stay will be 2 years - study permit. Need to be prepared cuz toddler won't have immediate access to provincial health care. I can get a doctor's prescription here but will that be accepted?

You can bring a maximum of a 90 day supply of prescription medication. Anything beyond the 90 day supply will need to be purchased in Canada and is illegal to bring into Canada.

hi,

what about formula milk, can I bring a one week supply with me in the check-in baggage?

thanks

not sure a doctors prescription apart from with any accompanying medication will be much use to get medication in Canada

believe you can do that but must be in original sealed packaging and also given considered a food item should be declared http://www.inspection.gc.ca/food/information-for-consumers/travellers/what-can-i-bring-into-canada-/eng/1389648337546/1389648516990

A foreign prescription is used for:

1) justifying travelling with controlled substances or with more than allowed quantities.
2) helping your family doctor to continue with the same treatment than in home country.

Pharmacies WILL NOT HONOUR non-Canadian prescriptions.

**The prescription should be officially translated to English/French if in another language.

If the allocated medicine match the average waiting time to get provincial coverage, then you can bring it with you.

But for example, in Alberta you can get coverage in less than 24 hours, so it would be hard to sell that you are bringing lots of medication in that case. You will have to use common sense and fully understand times and coverage for provincial health care.

Oh! Scylla and Jalex, thanks for your insights. I wasn't aware of a lot of these nuances.
Thank you, yet again. I'll keep the 90 day period in mind
