Hi all,

I am the sponsor. I reapplied for spousal sponsorship and got AOR without UCI or file number. Is this normal? I know you will get AOR with UCI and file numbers when you first apply, but for a second application, is this still the case? Or CIC just assume you keep records of your UCI and leave it out of your AOR?UCI is the same. So is the file number?

Anyone with any info please share! Thanks.

Hi Isturtle,
Your UCI would be the same but usually a different file number.
Thanks for the reply.

So should I expect the new file number in th SA mail?

When you received your AOR the UCI should have been on it as well. The new file number is generated when your file gets forwarded overseas or to Ottawa.
You can always call CIC and ask them your UCI if you're not sure what it is.
Also, the second time around usually takes a bit longer than the first.
But, stay positive and good luck :)

Thanks for the reply. I will call CIC about my UCI.
Just out of curiosity, how is it that the second time around usually takes a bit longer than the first? I mean, thr first time they even sent an email requesting passport but then they found out that police certifcate was not there and asked us to summit. We were not able to send it in within 30 days, so they decided to refuse us. I mean, we got passport request which meant our relationship was genuine to them. Now that the police certifcate
is in the second package with all the nessary documents, souldn't it be easier for them to make a decision?

it doesn't matter that this is the first or second application. The officers have to go through their process no matter what. More likely than not, it's not even the same officer handling your file. Missisauga doesn't even review the file for relationship validity, they are only concerned with the completion of the file and the sponsor's application. It doesn't even sound like your file has made it to your visa office yet, so it will be some time before a "decision" is made. And, no your new application certainly isn't going to be skimmed over because you've applied in the past and it should be "easier".

Also, keep in mind it's a different time of year than the last time you applied, i'm guessing. How quickly approval happens depends on a lot of factors such as application volume. Just because SA was shorter when you first applied, it doesn't mean they are going to process your new application any quicker. One application has nothing to do with the other, unless they are using the information to confirm facts.

They treat your second application as a new application and still go through each step.
They may think you tried to hide something regarding the police clearance because they didn't receive it within the time frame the last time around.

Also, perhaps they realized they could have made a huge mistake allowing a visa without a police clearance and caught it at the last second.
This may be the reason why its taking longer than before.

It may not even be about your police clearance at all either.
It could be that the embassy has a higher case load at this time, or shortage of staff at the embassy because of vacations.
Don't worry, I'm sure everything will work out fine. Have faith and try to be patient.

Just be sure that if they ask you to produce something this time and you think you dont have enough time to produce whatever they ask for; you can always email them and ask for an extension to allow more time to comply with their request.

They may contact you to ask why you didn't submit the police clearance in your previous application and why you didn't submit it within the allotted time frame they gave you.

You can try to be pro-active and explain that in an email to them quoting your UCI # with your name......otherwise if they have any questions or concerns they will call you in for an interview; and that is something you want to try to avoid.
