Anyone has changed workpermit status from closed to open?

Hello, I am working in Calgary as an office manager. I got my closed workpermit for only this employer.
It's still valid until next year. There is a big issue that company will be bankrupt sometime this summer.
I've heard they are in a big debt and can't pay off. I am going to apply CEC with my 1year and 9 month experience soon. However, I want to find another secure job. I don't want to cross my finger and wait
for the company luck.

I talk to one of the visa agency said I should send letter to gov to change my work permit status to open
with explanation. But I am not sure and scared to expose my situation to gov. In this case, what should I do
? what is my option to take? I need your help asap... Many thanks in advance!!!

Not possible. CIC will not give you an open work permit just because your current employer is going bankrupt.

If you want to change employers, you need a new approved LMO and a new closed work permit.

When does your permit expire? Because you can Apply CEC, as You are going to do, and as soon as You get the AOR, and your permit is in between 4 months to expire, You can Apply for An open work permit. It is one option.
But if You still have a lot of time on your WP and You feel You are going to Lopes your job sonner than that, i think You should look for An other job

Why wait to apply for PR? Do it now, wait for AOR, once received and your current WP is about to expire in the next 4 months you can apply for an open WP. That'd be the easiest way.
