Anyone got their Student Visa approved under SDS holding a valid IELTS general test? Which consultancy did you apply through, in India?

Greetings!

Hope everyone is doing well during these tough times!

I have been in a dilemma as I hold a valid IELTS general test and would want to apply for this program at the University. They accept the Duolingo English test. I have seen that the information in the Canadian immigration website doesn't specify the module required for IELTS and also they have tweeted from the official IRCC account that both General and Academic tests are accepted for the SDS.

However, most of the consultancies are not agreeing to it and mentioning that only Academic test would be needed. Has anyone got their Visa approved under SDS with an IELTS general test? Which consultancy would be able to help me out, keeping in mind that the University wants me to apply from one! Any help would be much appreciated!

Regards,

Paran

Consultants are fraud, I realize that quickly and did all my process on my own. Canadian immigration officer just wants to check your English proficiency, just go for it, and as they even have mentioned that they are accepting both, then who are those noobs agents, who couldn't achieve anything in their foreign studies so they came back to India to scam people, have anything to say on this matter. Be sharp, do all your process yourself, Canadian officers are open-minded and intelligent people, if you are deserving they surely will give you a study permit. Good luck in your journey.

Hi, IELTS General is acceptable for study permit application SDS. IELTS Academic is what’s accepted for school admission.

But if you have the duolingo (acceptable by the univ) and IELTS Gen (for SDS), then you’re good to go! Hope that helps!

You can apply for admission to the univ directly. Then maybe just go to your agent once you have LOA? since they’re being a pain to deal with.

The only issue is that the University representative has told me that I can only apply through some of the agencies that they have tie-ups with and most of them that I have spoken to regarding this mentioned that I need an Academic IETLS for Visa purpose. I don't understand!!!

Consultants are frauds. Ircc themselves have confirmed multiple times ielts general is fine for visa. Most consultants in India don't even bother to read up. So shameful. They are forcing students to keep giving ielts repeatedly. Remember ircc will issue visa not consultants. Refer to ircc rules only !

Exactly what I have. I will only give Duolingo once this gets sorted out. I only can apply through the agencies like Edwise and IDP etc. but they informed me that I would only need an IELTS academic? Do they not understand even after me sending them a screenshot of the official IRCC tweet?

Do you have any conversation saved for proof, that would help us in any way?

If I had to guess it's a private "college" in a suburban strip mall that makes sure to always have a few people in one "classroom," just in case the CBSA pays them a visit.

Nothing like that. I am sorry for stating it like that. They are recommending me to have the application processed through a consultant so that it is error-free and all the paperwork is taken care of. They are not forcing me! I don't want to name the University till the time things get sorted out. I am still in the process. I hope you guys understand!

More often than not consultants introduce errors because they're handling lots of applications and don't really care about the outcome since you're paying them either way. Why don't you handle the paperwork yourself? It's not that hard.

If a legitimate university is recommending consultants to you, that is incredibly sketchy and we should know which university, presumably because someone is receiving kickbacks.
