Dear friends, I need your advice.

I have an inquiry about leaving Canada to US and back while on maintained/implied status waiting for my work permit extension to be approved. I am from VISA required country. I have held a LMIA-exempt work permit for a year since last August. My work permit and temporary visa all expired this September. I applied for work permit extension before my work permit expired and now I am working under the implied status.

However I need to go to the US next month and my work permit extension should not be approved at that time given the long processing time (166 days). I read online
https://www.cic.gc.ca/english/helpcentre/answer.asp?qnum=190&top=17
https://www.canada.ca/en/immigration-refugees-citizenship/corporate/publications-manuals/operational-bulletins-manuals/temporary-residents/visitors/implied-status-extending-stay.html
IRCC said I can still come back from the US and even apply for a new work permit at the border.

Is this really the case? Is there anyone has the same experience with me? Thank you so much for your help!

Hi, I also would like to know this. I've applied for my BOWP on 2022-09-07, still waiting for their decision and have to go to US on Dec 1st 2022. Anyone have experience the same situation and was able to come back to Canada and work?

Given the IRCC website, we can. But everyone else told me cannot..

Hi @genzo, I was able to talk to IRCC over the phone this week, they said that if I have a ETA or valid TRV I can come back to Canada but only will be able to resume work when my work permit extension is processed, unfortunately.

You can try to come back. Always dependent on CBSA at the border whether you can enter.
