Hello everyone
I recently got my Canadian citizenship and passport. I applied for e visa on Tuesday as I was supposed to travel to India on 23rd September. Evisa was not granted because of the recent India Canada row. I’m aware that I can still use Indian passport for travel for 90 days after acquiring citizenship. My tickets were from Detroit. I entered US using my Canadian passport. Not sure if it’s ok to n use Canadian passport to board my flight to India and use my Indian passport once I land there. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Complication can happen during exit as you cannot use Indian passport and Canadian passport won't have entry against it. Will depend how considerate the immigration officer will be. Will let others who tried this chime in.

Exactly! That’s the problem I’m anticipating. Will it be easier if I return to Canada and rebook my return flight to India from Canada. Although my travel is not for any emergency I do have to travel. And it’s very unpredictable how long this issue may last.

I Applied for India e-VISA on Tuesday, before the whole drama played out. I am wondering if they will accept/approve e-VISA applications that was submitted online before the embassy fiasco. Usually in the past, how long does it take to get e-VISA after applying? 3-5 days? I dont have my OCI yet, so need a visa to travel to India in November. If anyone could shed some light on this, it would be helpful.

P.S: A friend of mine is going to apply for OCI, are they accepting applications for it?

24-48 hrs was max. Looks like the accepted ones are also not being processed. For OCI still waiting for someone to share his personal experience.

Hi - thanks for sharing your experience. I applied just a few HOURS before they declared visa services had been halted. Did they actually REJECT your visa or just haven't processed it? Also do you know if we can use our passports that have been cancelled already?

I am in similar boat. I have my oath scheduled for October 11 and then I am supposed to travel to India. My earlier plan was to get Canadian passport asap and apply for Indian e-visa. Now I can't get e-visa and I don't have sufficient time for OCI. I am not sure what to do. Did you end up traveling to India using your Indian passport?

Hi there
I had to cancel my tickets because of my peculiar situation. But I’m aware and also know of a lot of people who traveled to India using their Indian passport within the 90 days post acquiring citizenship (before surrendering the Indian passport)

Thank you for the update, appreciated. Do you personally know anyone who has traveled to India using their Indian passport like this? When are they returning back to Canada?

Thank you. Yes, postponing the ceremony is an option, sort of last resort. It's something I have waited for long, and now that I have an opportunity in hand, I do not want to push it further. That's why I am exploring all other possibilities before it comes down to pushing the ceremony.
