Yes, when you pay over the internet, you receive confirmation online immediately afterwards confirming that your payment was successful. Then, you also receive an email with a copy of the fee receipt. At the most, it should take about 30 minutes for the receipt to arrive in your inbox. The receipt has a receipt number, your name, date paid and the total amount paid. I paid for the application and landing fees together so mine says $1040 paid. Your confirmation comes directly from Citizenship & Immigration Canada (CIC), not from the embassy. If your lawyer is the one that paid on your behalf, you will need to check with him whether he used his email or your email address as the address to send the confirmation.
