Hi all,

I'm creating a thread for writers who are applying to self-employed program in 2020. Thinking of applying to it, but the pay is not much. It does suit what i do but not sure if i'll get accepted. Anyone applied and heard back from IRCC?

As long as you have 2 years of full time (or equivalent) paid work experience as a writer, then you can certainly give it a go.

Hmm my work is unfortunately unpaid, but i do have the funds to let me cover my bills and stuffs. Would that be sufficient?

No. That won't work. You need at least two years of paid work experience to qualify. Suggest you read through the details on the IRCC web site. Note that only paid experience counts as "experience". Anything unpaid doesn't count.

At a minimum, your experience must be:
  • for cultural activities:
    1. 2 one-year periods being self-employed in cultural activities, or
    2. 2 one-year periods participating at a world-class level in cultural activities, or
    3. a combination of a one-year period described in (a), and a one-year period described in (b)
