Any way my parent(s) can stay for longer than 6 months with a visitor visa?

Hi experts!

My mom is visiting this January and she might need to stay an extra 1-2 months over her maximum 6-month period for visitor visa. Is there any way OTHER THAN super visa that this could be done?

Thanks

Yes - she can apply for an extension to her visit from within Canada before her visit expires.

Thanks scylla.

When she applies for an extension, if it passes the expiry date and they have not answered does she have implied status to legally stay?

Also I just looked at the application to extend stays, it seems to require 1 year of medical coverage for parents and grandparents so I am confused. I thought it was only a requirement for super visa, no?

She will have implied status until they give you an answer on her visa being extended or not. So she is good until at least you get an answer.

Just to note as well, there is not guarantee that she will get 6 months at the boarder. Check the stamp in her passport before you assume she has 6 months. If there is no date then it is 6 months, if not she has to leave by that date.
