It seems to have disappeared from the Official immigration website's updated forward regulatory plan.

There is no change to the published IRPR. http://laws-lois.justice.gc.ca/eng/regulations/sor-2002-227/page-14.html#h-37

Wasn't that repeal carried in bill C-6? If so, they're still in senate debate over it..

Another broken promise maybe?

The 12 month spousal approval might be added to the list too.

Can't find it in bill C-6's text I'm afraid

It's not part of that bill.

We don't know if / when the Liberals are going to remove condition 51.

Hey scylla,
Do you happen to recall which bill that was presented under?

The most recent I've seen this topic in official papers is the March report on family reunification. However if you look at conclusions and recommendations, conditional PR wasn't really addressed though they mentioned plans to repeal the regulations have already been prepublished (back in November in Gazette I). I believe it needs to be registered then published in Gazette II to come into force.

Either way it doesnt matter since its not a concern for couples in a genuine relationship

It's not part of a bill and doesn't require a bill.

Totally agree here. Not an issue for us. I see the question come up often though.

I did read on a few immigration law firm sites that, they were targeting spring 2017 to remove it.

I wouldn't put too much weight on that. I know a number of immigration law firm web sites had earlier dates and then just moved them / updated them when it didn't happen.

But like you and others have said, shouldn't matter if the relationship is genuine.

My interest stems from the fact that while I'm wildly in love with my husband, my PR application was approved much sooner than I thought and I've now to face the real possibility of breaking serious work commitments I've made when I thought my PR would be approved much later this year, if condition 51 isn't repealed soon. In short, I'd have to move to Canada permanently sooner than expected.

Thanks anyway everyone for your responses :)

If you have to remain in your home country and work a bit longer after landing - it's extremely unlikely this will cause a problem or trigger an issue. I honestly wouldn't worry about it.

That's good to hear! In my case, I landed in mid-February 2017 and stayed a couple of weeks in Canada then went back to my current country of residence. My husband did visit me for a couple of weeks from mid to late March but now I'm wondering if I can stay here until June, to finish off my biggest commitments. It's a bit of a stretch so I am concerned.
