the Hong Kong office stated that the Taiwanese people will be treated as mainland people.
Do you apply inland or outland and when did you send it ??

From what i read on the Canadian consulate website this is not correct. Taiwanese no longer require a visa to visit Canada, and in generall dont require interviews for immigration. It said they will be grouped with Hong Kong applicants. We will apply outland.

When I said "we're being treated the same as mainland" means the processing time which takes around 18 months when it used to be 5 months in Taiwan.

yep youre right Amanda, but i have yet to come across A Hong Kong resident on this forum that waited 19 months, they all seem to be mainlanders from southern China. Since Taiwanese no longer require a visa they dont need to interview in Hong Kong where as many mainlanders do. 80 percent of the applications take 19 months but id be willing to bet 80 percent are applicants from southern China and not Taiwan or Hong Kong , all of which are processed through HK. So im hoping since we wont need to interview it wont be nearly 19 months. You know anything about this? How did you apply and how isit going?

yes, I think I understand where your idea comes from and sorry I'm not apply from outland but I do have some friends are applying/did it, so I'd like to share it if it helps.

Myself, I've been living in Canada since 2007 so I just applied it inland. Although I knew it would be faster if I applied from Taiwan but I don't want to take the risk that if I had to fly back for interview. About my case, my bf and I both got married previously, which is not a straight case to VO, means VO might have more questions about us compared to other people. I'm kind of lucky because the VO didn't question about my app and I got my first stage approved at Sep 2011, just like the normal processing time. Now, they transfered my paper to Hong Kong since I have a kid in Taiwan who is non-accompany family member but still need to be going through the process. So I'm waiting for them to finish it now. I don't know how long it will take, I can only pray :p

Please keep that in mind, it's not 100% guarantee that Taiwanese will NOT need a interview; just lower percentage for interview compared to southern China and Hong Kong. You will ONLY not to be interviewed when the VO has no question about your case. I met a Taiwanese girl on Taiwanese discussion board who just finished her interview 2 weeks ago. But please don't get me wrong, I'm not trying to tell you not to apply from Hong Kong, just hope you get all the information before you making the decision.

Since I don't know too much about your case, what I would suggest here is giving/providing as much as the paper works you have in hand. (you can take a look here, lots of people shared their experience on how they prepared the paper). Don't give any chance to make the VO confused/doubt about your application, or make them try to ask you sending more paper, then you'll really save some more time.

Wish you good luck....

Thanks Amanda. I doubt we ill need an interview. Were married, ive been in Taiwan for 7 years and we meat at work 5 years ago and can proove it, we have wedding pics with both families in Taiwan, recipts, pics..the list goes on. Im surprised you had to interview, ive never heard of that happening since they dont require Taiwanese to get a visa to visit canada. I guess it wa your kid and previous marriage. Thanks for you reply
