skim reading or fast reading is the main point.

give more concentration on first and last paragraph.

also skim the whole passage before you start finding answers for questions.

so that you have clear idea about gist of the given passage and you can answer more clearly and you will save yourself from falling under trap for tricky question.

moreover if you start answering questions before reading whole paragraph then you waste your time skimming whole passage for all answers because you don't have clear idea where you will get your answer.

so better you skim fast first and then start answering.

Practice more in working with texts and don't be shy to say "not mentioned" when the subject truly was not mentioned. I had the same problem and practicing helped.

I took the Dec5th IELTS and got R8.5 Practice on getting the thought of the paragraph without having to read everything. Focus on one question at a time to choose the best answer. You can do it. ;)

Try reading the whole text first, then answer questions. Jumping to questions and finding answer in the text didn't work for me. My first reading was 6, when I have tried to follow to that advice. Second result was much better-8! As for true, false, ng- if the text clearly mentions it -then true, if it mentions something but with false info-false, not given -simple, you just won't be able to find it in the text. Good luck!

Hey k0nduire I also took the DEC-5 test and scored 8.5 on reading as well ;). I thought the reading part was very easy , i was practicing with IDP material which was very hard as compared to the actual test. I literally finished the reading test with 15 mins to spare after double checking my answers ;D.

i got perfect 9. keep practicing thats the only way.

I also got perfect 9 in reading. My advice is: when you read the first time, read fast but make sure to underline any names, dates, key events, etc. When you will be looking for answers later, it will be much easier and faster to find the place in the text where a particular event was mentioned. And when preparing with sample texts, always always try to understand where you made mistakes and why. Good luck!

Elimination technique for the true and false questions. If you are not able to get the correct answer right away, try and eliminate the answers that are wrong. That way it will help you narrow it down to the correct answer.

I got 6.5 the first time and 8.5 the second.

I think the key is
1. practise
2. on the true and falese section write TRUE and FALSE not T and F like in high school :D
3. pay attention to whether one word is needed as answer or two - this is very important.
4. write the word that is the correct answer EXACTLY as it is in the text.

that's according to my experience.
