Hi there !

So it will take apparently 27 months before the spouse sponsorship takes place.

How can I possibly see my spouse if they might refuse his visitors application as I heard the immigrancy doesnt approve the visitors that sent through a sponsorship visa ?

Hi Emilee,

We are going through Pretoria as well. There is a thread for those going through Pretoria that you may want to check out. The time lines there has not been 27 months lately. One was recently approved in 3 months, another 5 months and another is at the 8 months still progressing. Its a quiet thread, but you may get some insight and answers.

As for seeing your spouse. It is up in the air if his TRV will be approved or not. All I can suggest is going to see him. Which is how my spouse and I have approached the potential 27 months apart. Make the most of phone calls, skype, messages, what ever means you have and plan a visit. Or if you have the means go spend time with him in SA (assuming he is in South).

Any questions feel free to ask! I am usually poking around! Have you sent in your application? When was it transferred to Pretoria?

thanks for your reply :)

Well my sponsor application is not sent yet as we have been waiting for 2 months for his police clearance to arrive ! So it should be sent out soon !

But we were going to send it to missessauga in Canada as per the website...

So you recommand we go through pretoria instead ?

Also, I just came back from Cape town 1 month ago after spending 1 year there. So I am not in a position to go back now. I though it would be great if he could come at least a year here as I live in montreal see if he likes Quebec and would picture hiself living here.

Not a problem. There is a great source of support and advice on this forum. So feel to ask away!

You are right. Your application is sent to Mississauga. I asked about Pretoria as I did not know you hadn't submitted it. Once you are approved as a sponsor your application will be sent to Pretoria. It says to be taking 55 days for sponsor approval, however that has been all over the map anywhere from 6 to 60 plus days. Then it states that 80 percent of applications are processed within 27 months. But most of us in Pretoria are hoping its a lot shorter and we are processed in the 20% or 40% of cases!

It is a great thought for our spouses to come and see where we live. But once we apply for sponsorship, immigration does not seem them as leaving or having a strong tie to return back home. That said, some do get their TRV and come visit. However, that is a very small percentage out of Africa, as I have learned. If your partner has strong ties to Capetown and can prove he will return after his visit, then you are likely to have a strong case. But if he does not, then it is not likely to be approved.

Hope that helps... and like I said, if you have any questions please feel free to ask!

Oh great that is helpfull !

So is it possible for him to lie or `not to mention`when applying for a visitors about the sponsorship application ? he will send out ?

Or should he apply for a visitors visa and then from canada send out our sponsorship application?

I am so exited about showing him around here !!

Yes so lets hope we are in the 20 % to 40 % lucky ones where it took only a few months !

I would not suggestion lying to immigration. They do have access to files. You can try for a trv before submitting your application.

Ok great that would be way better than sneeking things ! So I`ll tell him to hang on to the sponsorship application and to apply for the visitors before !

Hopefully this would work !

For the Visitors visa, do you know how much in rands they want to see in your bank account approximatly ? For six months, I was thinking of 50 000 rands, is that enough ?

The amount depends on what he will be doing here, where he will be staying and those details. If he states he will be staying with you and wont have accomodation expenses and wont have to eat oit all the time, then it should be ok. But its up to you to decide. I dont know the amount for 6 months. Just ensure he can support himself on it while here.
