Hello,

I'm wondering if it looks "bad" when someone enters Canada very often on various visas (3 x as student, 1 x visitor, 1 x temporary work permit)? I mean we are going to submit a residency application within the next year but he is going to try to come visit me in Canada again before that.

Do the border folks start to frown upon someone who visits so often? He is not from a visit exempt country and has never said he is visiting his girlfriend.

Thanks for any insight!

Multiple entries can raise red flags...but the mere fact that you are entering means that you must also have left in the past. So you are in compliance with the act. Eventually officers will call into question the true reasons for entry, if you are not a genuine visitor then you may be open to enforcement action.

I got flagged after visiting twice within 5 months of each other. I think you're taking a chance any time you make multiple entries.

While you are taking a chance entering multiple times, this can be positively mitigated on your end by having documents that will tell the VO that you intend to leave Canada at or before the 6 months you are granted with your Visa stamp on your passport. Documents could include your return ticket, a signed letter from your supervisor stating that you still have a job, and/or a notorized affidavid stating your intentions to leave Canada at a certain date.

You would not belive how much documenation I need simply because of this. But if you can show that you are there only to visit and intention to leave at a certain date, they have no choice but to let you through. I have been thorugh now several times - and that alone tells them I understand and obey their immigration laws and return when I plan to.

I entered Canada twice also in 4 months but 'twas all fine. When asked what's the purpose of my visit I say I am visiting my partner. No biggie!! =) Questions they ALWAYS ask:

1. Where you from? What do you do there?
2. Purpose of your visit? How long?
3. Where did you meet? (If you say you are visiting a partner)
4. Where you will stay? How are you going there?
5. Did you bring any gifts? --> last time i brought a cake and they asked me what this is made off!! Kinda funny! My expression was like, duh, of course made of flour and eggs! LOL! Then I was let through.

As long as you are compliant with the act and leave after your intended stay there shouldn't be a problem.
