Hi Trinatocanada and others,

Could you pls tell me what is PLAR program? Where I can get all the details of such program. What I can assume it may be some sort of prior training to be eligible for written exam.I am not sure!! How long it may take to finish such education training program?

I am a physio and am planning to send my docs by next 2 months.

Thanks in advance.

PLAR means Prior Learning and Assessment Recognition. Please see http://www.alliancept.org/credential_process_plar.shtml

After you send your documents for assessment, the Alliance will decide if your credentials are equivalent to a Canadian educated physio or not. The following scenarios can happen:

1. If they find that it is equivalent to Canadian physiotherapy education - they will say that you can take the exam.

2. If it is not then they will assess it again and decide if you are eligible for PLAR.**

a) Eligible for PLAR - they will give you what classes you need to take before being allowed to take the exam. You must complete this
requirement within 2 years from the date of the letter.

b) Not eligible for PLAR - they will tell you to enroll in a Physiotherapy course in Canada.

**Take note that the initial assessment's fees are separate from the PLAR assessment fee. All fees can be found in the Alliance's website.

If you live outside of Canada, it is possible to take online classes for PLAR. The Alliance will give you a list of all accredited universities who offer the classes that you are required to take. In my case, I took classes from the University of Phoenix and Thompson Rivers University. You will not be allowed to enroll without the Alliance's referral letter, which you will only receive when they have assessed your papers.
