I contacted a Professor in concerned department who was involved in the same area of research I am interested in. I asked him if he had any vacant positions, he replied positively, had a skype interview and then he selected me.

I have a question to clarify: In case I do accept this offer now (in the letter its mentioned that I need to accept/reject the offer within 30 days) and do not join the university later due to some reasons. Do they have any legal rights against me because I am holding a position which could be well served to another interested candidate ?

I dun think so it will be any legal issue... its just that you have to deposit some of the fees to confirm your admission and your seat will be given to any other person

No dude, I don't need to deposit any fee. My admission is already confirmed. Fee will be deducted from my RA salary on monthly basis. That is why I am little concerned if I don't join them at the last moment and they don't get any replacement, I am wondering if its trouble.

I applied In December 2011... It took around 2.5 months to get the admission...

Im worried about visa ... Its pretty much difficult to get canadian student visa :S

My question is ...Did you get funding?
Or you are still waiting for a reply concerning funding???
coz i heard that one receives funding immediately after confirmation or like a week after etc.

I have not finalized yet. I have applied to other universities like Univ of Toronto and Waterloo. I am not sure about Waterloo but if I make it to Toronto, I will join it for sure and leave Alberta. Only results are awaited.

But for now I have sent my acceptance to Alberta.

Yes Ashant we got admit for the same program and we got accepted... But now we are waiting for our Letter of Admission to arrive ...

My program MINT (Masters in Internetworking) doesnt support funding... its my hard luck but anyways, the admission is done the next visa target is painful process
