Any one has experience with a child not PR?

Any body has any experience with a parent or parents living on PR status in Canada (not having met residency obligation) and having a dependant child living with them in Canada (child belongs to a non-exempt country such as Newzealand).....

I wanted to know what difficulties they came across with the child if any.

Like any health issues? What health insurance did they have to buy for the child? what does that health insurance cover? Does it cover all doctor visits etc?
If the child had to be enrolled in school, did they have to private pay?
could the child exit canada and re-enter on the non-exempt visa passport?

and how long does it usually take? is it the processing time mentioned on the website or can it take shorter than that? I am sorry but 16 months is ridiculous In other countries such as Australia and Newzealand, as soon as the parents get their pr no matter how complicated the case may be, I have seen dependant children getting pr within a month.

The child won't be covered by the health care system. You should purchase insurance to cover emergencies. You will have to pay for non-emergency care out of your own pocket. Unless you buy very expensive coverage - non-emergency care isn't covered.

I believe the child should be able to attend school - you should check with your local school to see what they say.

The child can leave Canada - however entry is technically never guaranteed. Also, if the parents don't meet RO, they should really remain in Canada and avoid the risk of being reported.

Sponsoring the child for PR won't take 16 months. Dependent child applications are processed faster.

it says 16 months on the CIC website. do you have any source which says it takes shorter?

also, what insurance can we buy that covers emergency cover?

It depends on the school district whether they let your child enroll without paying. I have heard of people in such cases being allowed to enroll the child, being refused to enroll the child or being asked to get the child a study permit for minor and pay tuition. Before you take an apartment, ask the local school if there is a problem. That way, you wont be stuck in a lease in a neighbourhood where the local school refuses to enroll your child.
