1) IT Jobs (Networking,Administrators,Help-desk) In and around Halifax ? - 3-4 companies in NS which provide these kind of jobs. As Dalhousie/SMU University is in Halifax companies prefer Dal Students over others therefore hunting job is not impossible but rely hard. Moreover the wages/salary compared to the other province(s) is rely low.
2) Odd Jobs in Halifax ? - Easy to find however you have to be open to everything. Tip for this is -- fake on your resume. I know guys you are going to hate me for this but its true.
3) Cost of living (Housing Rent ,Grocery and transportation ) In and Around Halifax ? - Rent is kind of normal depends where you want to live -- Attention there are some buildings which are BEDBUG infected
First, Harbour View Appt aka Ocean Towers. Second, Fenwick Towers. Third Scotia and Mackeen (Not fully infected currently)
Guys beware of first two places, never sing a lease there. Ocean and Fenwick are infected with bedbugs and if you rent there bedbugs will gradually enter your appt and destroy your furniture and wont let you sleep.
4) Weather ? - Summers are beautiful. NS have all the goodness of natural beauty like Parks, Beaches and waterfront. Winters are bit harsh as its near to the Atlantic ocean, cool breeze is hard to face. NS is kind of hilly area, you wont find straight roads so it becomes hard to drive in winter.
5) Which Jobs are in Demand and easy to get ? - Jobs are not easy. If you have the skills and experience (preferably Canadian exp) you can find a decent job. There are too many fresh and experience students which every year graduates from Dal and SMU which makes thing little difficult for the outlanders.
I almost know inside out of NS as its a small city. If you have any other question, feel free to ask.

$2k per week takes to $8k per month and $96k per year post tax salary alone?! Hard to believe!naman.tuteja said:How much can we earn weekly in IT Sector in NS or Halifax if we get a job ?
If you come to the most basic (lowest) it would be $2k after tax in hand.
And how much is the rent monthly for 1br or 2br apartments in Halifax ?
Depends on the area and how old the apt is. It ranges from $850-$1200 for 1BHK and $1400-$1800 for 2 BHK
You might find cheap apartments in Dartmouth or Clayton Park area.
And Can we find indian people there ? Wow, you will find tons of Indians now. There is Temple, Gurudawara Sahib, Church, etc.
It was monthly. So $36k/annually is 1k bi-weekly and 2k monthly after taxes.DEEPCUR said:$2k per week takes to $8k per month and $96k per year post tax salary alone?! Hard to believe!
Can you confirm if you meant weekly or biweekly?!
Yeah, I agree. Looks pretty low considering the fact that IT is generally one of the well paid profession in most countries. Even if the salary is going to be 50-60k, my guess is you won't see big jump in pay check as they have tax rates based on income range. 50-60k might take put in next tax bracket. If spouse is in IT, that would make things much better.mdzakir1 said:What a life for IT. 2k salary monthly and 1500 housing....so for IT guys it's hard to save money . Hope for positive outcome for all over there....apart from Halifax which is major city in NS....

More than that, the overall concern is the first job barrier that one needs to break. If the first job barrier is broken with a right job (not survival jobs) even with low pay, I think one can catch up pretty quick down the line. It takes time even for people with direct ITA where all provinces are option to settle in a decent job related to their profession due to lack of Canadian experience or what so ever.. Having just one small economically insignificant province alone in the scope makes things to appear even tougher. As it was mentioned, option for immigration alone makes Atlantic provinces attractive to some extent. It would need a lot of home work before moving I think.
Not being able to move out of province is a big obstacle with these PNPs. They can at least clearly get a bond/agreement for 2 years for residence in province and then free people so light can at least be seen at the end of the tunnel if something isn't working out. I am not sure about NS, but provinces like NB have a intent to residence form that doesn't specify any time line for the obligation which can theoretically be interpreted up to citizenship or even later! I have seen people saying Canadian constitution allows PRs to move anywhere, but in my opinion, it is not worth risking that route. Not all can fight legally against governments or provinces if some issue pops up. One needs to live in fear till citizenship for violating this residency clause if even they escape from the eyes of province.

I would like to give some light on positive parts.
1. When you move to Canada with PNP - if you are a INLAND, you can move anywhere in Canada after your PR. If you are OUTLAND, you have to stick in the province for atleast 2 years.
2. The PNP for low economy province like NS,NB and PEI can be achieved with ease as compared to other province like ON and BC because it will be a benefit to the province (growth and tax wise)
3. Whatever you are in your country -- Manager, Senior Employee or whatever. Treat yourself as a fresher (this is the case of OUTLAND people). If you want to get a good and high pay job, go for a Canadian education. Diplomas will work. Once you are done with your study then your past work experience in your country will be given priority and you can achieve a much higher pay.
4. Just give yourself year or so in job and in Canada (it will difficult) and everything will be fine. 60k salary is a decent salary in NS you will be manage to take care of your family.
BE POSITIVE and strive for the best. !!!
CHEERS....
Hi @naman.tuteja, I know this is a relatively old post but I noticed something and just thought to ask if you don't mind. What did you meant by I stayed due to my immigration. That`s true you can save more and I have done the same as you mentioned sir. NS is the highest tax paying province and if you compare Halifax to Toronto I would rather prefer Toronto. You are certainly mistaken on the rent perspective. Both places have same rent power. Living in NS gives me a better overview. In 2015 (end) I got offer from a company located in ON and they were ready to pay me almost double for the same work, I was astonished. However I stayed due to my immigration.
I am not here to discriminate NS, its a wonderful place however is still in process of growth. ON or BC is the place where personal growth and opportunities can be found easily.
I landed in NS in 2012 and it was so hard at that point of time as how much I tried still could not find the food, spices, etc I needed to cook however in 2016 as the Indian population is grown things are drastically changed.
The best thing about NS is "IMMIGRATION" - pretty easy way to make points.
