What's the situation there? Do people have option either to go to Montreal shelter or Toronto shelter? Or are they all sent to Toronto with no choice?

After they accept you in to Montreal you find your way to any province you like they don't stop you going to your place of choice

Thank you for your reply. But someone told me that the documents they give you at the roxham road, i.e, the certified copy of the original passport, is not able to open a bank account out of Quebec. Neither can it be used to take a flight. Is that true?
And if I cannot withstand the long-term waiting time for hearing and would like to withdraw my claim in the middle, do you know how long will that take to get back my passport? And in order to have more choice on myself, can I not turn in the original passport at the beginning and give them a expired one instead? In that case, I can leave anytime I want. But will it result in longer detaining time at the border?

Are you a genuine Asylum seeker? Are you afraid of persecution at your home country?
Or are you looking for a vacation under Asylum/refugee claim !?
from the questions you are asking looks like you trying to get benefit and tourism in Canada!!

Absolutely not. This whole process is not easy.if want to visit as a tourist,I won't choose this method.I need time to figure out where to settle down as the welfare is not enough in big cities.

Why are you so judgemental and so rude?

I always wonder one thing why asylum seekers leave their home countries under threat circumstances and come to seek asylum in an other country and are too demanding , some want their case to move so fast like in some days or months only. Asylum should never be an easy path or a shortcut to immigration. I came in Canada 6 months ago as an asylum seeker, I was not demanding and trusted the process no matter how long, thanks God I have a good job at TD bank and will have my short hearing next Wednesday. I’m not judging but it’s a fact.

Just a shot in the dark , but maybe because your questions are beyond ridiculous . If you’re in such a dire fear of persecution or your life is at risk , then waiting no matter how long , wouldn’t really be such a big deal .
And if you think people are being judgemental or rude , sweet summer child ………

And possibly because you also posted this gem

Ding ding ding
We have a winner

No wonder some of the public is losing faith in the system

I agree with @Salshe - the way you're coming across sounds like you're not a genuine refugee. Sounds like you want an H&C application to conveniently work around your travel plans and life goals. I mean, already plotting your welfare strategy. Seems a bit much eh?

If you decide to withdraw, your passport will be given to you at the airport they day you leave. You would receive a removal order.
You have to give a valid Passport (not expired one) or explain why you don’t have a valid one with you.
You can open a bank account with the brown paper or with your work permit.

@wonlee can you actually tell us your story and what's going on here? I mean clearly you're smart, strategic, have good grammar and some awareness about Roxham Road and the H&C process. What or who exactly are you seeking Canada's protection from? Where are you from originally?
