Any ideas for IMM 5533 "important documents...showing you are recognized as each other's spouse..."?

Hey there. My wife and I (Canadian, U.S., respectively) are about to send in our application for spousal sponsorship and we're a bit worried that our documents showing our relationship is recognized are a bit sparse.

Right now we have "Documentary evidence of financial support between you and your sponsor, and/or shared expenses" checked, and I've put together a 4 or so page document that mainly just shows a few dozen cash transfers we've sent each other over the years. We don't share any expenses, but when one of us would have something go wrong with our vehicles/need a phone repaired, etc, sometimes the other would shoot them some cash. There's also a page of transactions from one of her trips to the U.S. to show we split expenses when we're together (groceries, gas, etc.)

I also have "other proof that your relationship is recognized by your friends/family checked" and that's mainly photocopies of 4 cards from family members congratulating us on our marriage and a facebook post from the start of our relationship and our engagement.

Do I need more? I'd like to check one of the other two boxes, but we've never cohabitated and we don't have insurance so we're not listed as beneficiaries for each other.

The fact that you two don't live together and haven't co mingled much may work against you.
What's stopping you from at least creating a joint bank account?

You can also add other things like
  • Email correspondence
  • Cards from Birthdays etc that you may have given each other or received
  • Wedding invitations
  • Text messages

I agree that your list of evidence is pretty weak. Definitely look into getting a joint bank account at the very least. There may be other things that you could open together pretty quickly/easily that would really bolster your case.
