Any idea about background checks?

Hello guyz,
I want to put a very general question about background checks here so that experienced members here may share their opinions as it would be beneficial for those applicants who don't have much knowledge about this. And also, tell us if those background checks are done before CiC send us a medical request or they process these checks after we are done with our medicals?
