any advice on OWP/PR + refund

Me and spouse applied for PR April 2014, finally got MR today.. TWO weeks AFTER spending $520 on two open work permits (current ones expire July 7th) very very annoyed as we probably won't use these permits now as hopefully we will get PR status by July 7th so thats a waste of money that we couldn't afford in the first place.

What are the chances of us getting PR by July 7th if we get MR done asap? If chances are high can we cancel our application for OWP and get a refund?

It will be very close call. Sadly, no one can give you an exact timing for the PPR. I'd suggest you to do Medicals ASAP. And hope that by the middle of June you'll get the PPR. Until you get the PPR request, keep the application active.
Once you get the PPR, you may withdraw the WP applications, but I don't know if they will refund the money. /usually if they didn't start with the application, they refund the money/

Dont cancel,some people waited for more than 5 months for ppr after medical was done..

I know someone who also got MR right after extending her WP, in the same day. CIC is like, "hey she just paid for a new WP! Let's get her to do her medicals."

I would not withdraw it. I would only cancel it if you actually got the CoPR. Play it safe. To be honest, $520 is a lot of money but way less of a grief compared to what would happen if things did not work out your way

Thanks guys! Shall wait until PPR then. Its still not been processed or anything so hopefully they delay that like they have delayed PR application 8)

For me, it has been almost 6 months since I got MR and I am still waiting for PPR.

Application received on Jan 31 of 2014 and we got MR on Dec 19 of 2014. Then nothing has happened.

you should be happy and not annoyed that you got both , atleast you wont have to leave your job and the country incase PPR gets delayed.

Well, there's a pretty big difference between MR and RPRF I would say... RPRF means eligibility passed (the RPRF request says exactly that) so there's no question on job duties, NOC codes, CEC employment length (if CEC applicant) etc. any more. MR doesn't necessarily mean those things.

So you should be in better shape with both MR and RPRF.

This feels great. I hope i will get PPR soon because my Ecas also says in process from may 14 2015. and also i have applied for WR because mine Expire on June 19....

I paid rprf upfront. In my gcms, it says eligibility and medical have passed already.

The VO will "CANCEL" your OWP applications if s/he deems they are not required because you have been granted PR when s/he starts processing your OWP application.

In that case your fees will be refunded.
