Any advice for an overdue application from the Detroit Consulate?

Hi there folks!

I had applied for a student visa online. I am an American Citizen. The office in Canada received my online application 21st of April and my application was then transferred to the office in Detroit the 9th of May and I have not heard anything from them? I had my girlfriend in Toronto contact the office in Canada (she was listed as a contact person in my application) but they could not give her any info on my application as it was no longer in Canada and was at the office in Detroit.

I then sent an email to the office in Detroit, and got an auto response of "we will answer your email within 28 days"

So I called the office, eventually go through to a person (instead of a machine) and they said they will ABSOLUTELY NOT give any information about cases over the phone and that I must send an email (which said they would respond within 28 days)
It is about 3 weeks over the 6 weeks case processing time and I have no idea where or the standing of my application, any advice would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

You can email them again using the subject "URGENT" .They should respond swiftly in that way.Sometimes, you have to email the embassies couple of times before they respond.

Alternatively,if you are close to any canadian embassy,it's better to walk in and have an extensive inquiries on what to do.I don't think application process for study visa should be this long for US citizens.

Alright, Thanks for the advice. They should have many many emails in their inbox with my name on in by now. Fingers crossed that I hear something soon!

So I got a response from the consulate in Detroit, but of course it was not what I was looking for. On myCIC it said my case was transferred to Detroit, but when I email the office in Detroit asking about my visa, they send an auto response saying they do not process student visas. I tried calling, but was unable to get an answer. Do anyone know why I am getting contradictory responses?

I think another thing you can do is to go to the embassy where your application was transferred to and inquire.Alternatively, you can contact CIC directly or the office that responded to you, tell them your case and when your class will start

Unfortunately I am working in Norway until the end of July, so I cant make it to Detroit until beginning of August. I have tried calling to Detroit, but they are quite firm in saying they will not offer any case specific information or general inquiries over the telephone let alone tell me if my application is in Detroit?!?!... they said to just email as urgent message. I am getting a bit frustrated at this point.

When I tried to contact the CIC in Canada, the only information they can give me is that my case was sent to Detroit... so I am just chasing my tail!

Okay.Don't get frustrated.things will be fine.Keep sending in the email and you can try fax as well.Yes,they won't want to give you any information regarding the application on phone.Try faxing and emailing till they respond to you.And do include "urgent" in the subject.

I also don't like the idea of not been able to talk with someone in the embassy who can give information about applications. They will always ask you to email or fax the visa section.
