I am wondering if there is anything that gives employees of the Canadian government an advantage when sponsoring a foreign spouse. Logically one would think if you are doing important public service they would make it easier for your spouse to be with you (and VO's may look upon this favorably) but I am wondering if there is any sort of explicit advantage. Would appreciate your comments.

I hope not!

Bribing some people and slipping some cash may get you some "sort of explicit advantage".

I don't know... My partner and I came through Calgary with our son a few moths ago and the IO was a real hard ass, grilling us with questions about our relationship, asking about my Permanent Resident application, time line and so on... and after he was convinced we were legit, he changed his tune and became compassionate. He then told us that his wife, whom he has 2 children with, was an immigrant from Asia and in Canada for 10 years, and then 2 years ago, out of the blue, they received a deportation order, for her, because of some problems with her paperwork. He said that they were fighting her deportation but she's had to stay in Canada, not visit family, felt like they were in prison... I asked if it helped that he was an IO and he laughed and said that he would have thought so, but they get NO special treatment and that it may have actually put them under more scrutiny.
