I do not think you need a job to rent. You usually pay first and last month's and the is the security for landlord. Never heard of employment agreement for rent.

I heard that one cannot make a monthly rent in an apt unless he has an employment agreement or a sponsor living in Canada . I am not talking about a rental in a hotel or furnished apts that charge u big amounts of money . I mean a decent place that provides all amenities that charges around 900$ a month .
I found a furnished apt in downtown Toronto to stay in for a week just for the landing purpose , it's around 66$ per dium .
I wonder where our dear friend fedupwaiting is staying and did you face the same issue about renting? Did they require employment agreement or a sponser in order to approve to take u in ?

My God , how can a newcomer have a job before he even reaches Canada ? What about if he has no reference or sponser to back him up ?

Hey.. it depends on the apartments. usually in residential controlled buildings, the management asks for employment reference letter and even credit check report or a sponsor. But you can find apartments where these requirements are not mandatory, sometimes they can ask you to pay several months ahead but in general you can find (Midtown Toronto or north of 401) without these rules.

They do ask for such things , not everywhere I guess , but it happened with one of my friends .
Anyway we'll see how it goes . Thanks

Hello Kitti ,
I am always here , So to Rent an apartment they may ask u for:
* A letter from your employee .
OR
*Credit check history.
OR
*A letter from any of ur friends or relative who can guarantee ur monthly payment with a proof of his/here status.
OR
*you can offer to pay 6 months a head"but not all of them will accept that"
I faced this problem but I figured it out and after landing u can figure out but u have to find one first.....

I don't really care , midtown Toronto sounds convenient and cheaper than downtown , and one bedroom apt is fine .

Hey Kitti, I'm sorry for the delay. I'm staying currently in Novotel hotel; tomorrow, i'm moving to an apartment that my company reserved for me; that's why it was a bit easy in my case.
When are you coming? What are your plans?
