Hubby's visitor record is good till Dec. 6th. We're wondering what the likelihood of being approved for a 12 month extension is (in the hopes that he'll get PR before then and save us the trouble of having to apply for a new extension in June) or if it's better just to ask for 6? I know people have gotten 12 months before but I don't want to risk anything so any input would be fabulous.

you can ask for 12 months... tell them you are applying for PR visa.

Thanks Creampop! In the "reason for request" part we wrote that I've already been approved to sponsor and that we'd like to remain together while awaiting a decision on his application for permanent residency, so that part is covered.

If they feel 12 months is too long, might they just extend for 6 months without us having to do anything else, or will we have to re-apply for 6 months if 12 is denied?

include a copy of your sponsorship approval letter with the application. if your e-mailing it scan it and attach it. They will adjust it without you having to do anything but most likely you will get the 12 months. on a positive note if it is a straight forward case it could go fairly quick I got my PPR 5 months & 16 days from the day our application was received just waiting for PP to come back with CoPR now so I figure the whole process once I land will have taken 6 1/2 months. and over half of that was his sponsorship approval it took less time for my half then his ::) Good Luck!

Since processing applications for visitor visa take 71 days (when you're applying online) or 97 days (for paper applications), respectively, right now, your hubby will be under implied status after December 6 until they're done processing. So in case they're only giving him the 6 months, this will add up to 2 months to that, so by that time you might have PR already.

I sent an application for my visitor visa extension on September 05 and I still didn't hear anything. My visitor visa expired on October 03.

Good luck!!

6.5 months, wow! Congrats! Our case is straightforward as well so I've been keeping my fingers crossed for a quick approval but trying not to get my hopes up. Thanks for your help on this question :D

That's a good point too. Hopefully if they don't give us the 12, he'll get PR within the six months so we don't have to file (and pay) for another extension. Thanks for your input and good luck to you!
