Im trying to arrange medicals for myself and my children. We are all UK passport holders.

My son is my husband's biological child. My daughter is not, has not been adopted by him, but does have his surname (legally changed).

Do the children need medicals - especially my son.

Thank you.

Hello!
If your son is not a citizen or PR of Canada already then, yes!
They need medical exam if you include them as you dependants to be sponsored alongside you. It doesn't change anything if your daughter has his last name. If she is not a citizen or PR of Canada you include her in your application as your dependant too.

;)

That's answered my question - thank you :)

If your husband was born in Canada or became a naturalized Canadian prior to your son's birth, then your son is Canadian, even if he does not have proof of Canadian citizenship. He is not included as a dependent in the app, not listed on IMM0008 and does not need a medical.

Just wanted to clarify that, as including a dependent in the app who is already Canadian can cause significant delays while the mistake is sorted out.

I assume you also have sole custody of your daughter since your daughter is a minor (as posted in other thread: http://www.canadavisa.com/canada-immigration-discussion-board/medical-confusion-t270171.0.html;msg4025856#msg4025856).

Yes, As she was born in 1999 and her father and I were no married I have sole Parental Responsibility.

Canuck, thank you for that, I had no idea. I've already included him in the application so I guess I'd better start again.

You may also start the process to get Citizenship Certificate for your son, if you have not done that already. Processing time for CC is 5 months and is even longer if you live outside Canada. After that you can apply for his Canadian Passport as well. Or you can also do it when you move to Canada.

Thank you RajaJi.

So we shouldn't include him on the PR application. We will arrive in Canada in 4 months but already have a Canadian address. Maybe it is worth using that and start the CC process for him now. What would be your opinion please?

Ah, just checked the link, add 3-4 months for CC applications from outside Canada or the US. We'll start the process as soon as we arrive.

He is not included but must be listed on IMM5406 and IMM5481.

One very important thing to note is that it's possible you may face issues getting your son provincial healthcare without any proof of Canadian citizenship. The posted time is how long it takes to process 80% of apps, not an average; most are processed quicker than that. I would suggest applying now.

Yes, thinking about it, you're right. I can get it sent to my mother in law's and she will make sure i hear as soon as anything arrives in the mail. Thank you.
