Hello everyone,

I am sponsoring my common-law partner who lives in Istanbul, Im a Canadian Citizen. I have been approved as his sponsor recently and now they are sending our application to Ankara. After this first phase of being approved as a sponsor do things get easier? We have provided proof that we lived together in Turkey for 3 years with pictures, statements from family and friends and rental contracts. I am currently in Canada for school waiting for his approval. His medical exams came out clean and he has no criminal record.
I wonder if our chances of being approved are high? Is there anything we can do to increase our chances?
I fear that the office in Ankara might reject our case. I hear they can be pretty nasty. I would really appreciate some advice

Thanks :)

Hi D.O.

Welcome to the board!

You seem pretty covered, me and my wife lived for 2 years together as well prior to application to immigration. If you have as much proof as you claim you do have, you shouldnt have any issues.

Cheers

Apparently RMO has sent another request to the PP in Tehran to do additional tests for my father( we never received such a request from visa office in Ankara and we were notified accidentally when we called the PP in Tehran to see when did he send the previous medical test results).

I am not sure if the PP is sending the CORRECT results from referral specialist to Paris office( we have series of bad experience with this man) or manipulating them or send them incomplete in order to make an intentional delay on the process.

My questions, how can make we sure that the PP is sending the real results to the RMO, and if it is OK to send the copy of the referral specialist directly to Ankara or Paris?

I agree with Abe1004, as long as you have a lot of proof (and not just quantity but quality) and answered all those question in good detail everything should be okay. I'm not very familiar with the common-law procedure and It's always tough to say what the visa officer will look for, but typical red flags (for marriage relationships) include: large age difference, different economic/education background (ie. one person has a PhD the other grade 9), short courtship, family not knowing about the relationship, different culture/religion, no proofs/few pictures together, etc. It's not to say any one thing is a problem, some times it is a combination of these things, some times its just gut reaction from the visa officer. You'll never be denied outright. The visa officer always gives you a chance to prove yourself more.

Right now Ankara is dealing with a long wait-line backlog left over from the strike when they weren't working for 2-3 months. This means it's taking longer to open the file than before. Please consult the spreadsheet to see where you fit: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0As9AzYZMOIQPdHJqUWRkYUJWaElSalJINUJ1TlBUZkE#gid=2

Good luck! Hang in there!

befa42, if I were you, I think you should get a new physician and notify Ankara you intend to do so. This one doesn't seem to be working out for your family.

i seriously taught 'shortly' was no longer than 2 weeks as well but i was definitely wrong. we all have to remember 'shortly' in Turkey is not the same as 'shortly' in Canada. It seems like everything is taking 2-3 times longer than it did few years ago.
Any news Rocky2014?

Well I guess now it's safe to say for me when Ankara says "shortly" they also don't mean within 3 weeks. I'm wondering if we got fed a standard line to shut us up or something ::) :p

Anyway, Happy Valentine's Day everyone! Hope we are all with our loved ones soon xoxo

I just had an Idea!! a silly one maybe! but at least takes us out of waiting feeling a bit..

Let's write a letter to Ankara..A love letter and first thank them about their hard work and appreciate them for responding to our emails.
Then ask them to process as much as they can as it is the V day and month of heart in Canada, as well as spring coming. We can write one, and have it signed/initialed by all of us.
Basically, requesting their best effort just becaz...

And in order not to make it personal, we won't add any file# or name.
again might be super silly idea but thanking/giving energy to those working for us (even though they are getting paid good salaries) never hurts..

Any comment?

Hi
finally, my wife sent the package to CIC and we've started the annoying and most difficult part:
Which is:
Wait... Wait... and again: Wait...

now, would anybody help me please:

what is next? do CIC send e-mail when they receive the package? do they send e-mail just for sponsor or they do for applicant too?
how can I follow my process?

thanks

Welcome to the club of waiting Erfan.
The CIC will send you an Email, letting you know that they have received your application package in a couple of days. They will send it to the sponsor's Email address. By checking out the holy spreadsheet you can roughly anticipate what and when to expect next at each step.
And don't forget to enter your own timelines to the holy spreadsheet.
Wish you luck.

Hi All,

A bit off-topic question. Anyone else filing their Canadian income tax return for the first time as a married person? If so, how are you filling out Schedule 5 and/or the spouse's income information? I contacted the Canadian Revenue Agency today and I wasn't happy with the answer I got (didn't make sense to me). Private Message me if you like. Thanks.

I just have been notified that the PP did not send our medical report requested by VO in September 2013( the PP has sent me emedical sheet and there is no trace of such a submission). We have had many issues before with this PP and now we are doubtful of his reliability.
Anybody knows that if we are able to get a copy of medical report posted by PP to RMO, can we request to get a copy of our e- medical report, I mean asking the RMO or VO not asking the PP.

I think you can try but usually medical reports are asked and given to you by the PP, but I guess you have an issue it seems...By ordering the GCMS notes, maybe it would give you a hint if there is a problem or if they received it, or requested it!
