Hello all,

I have a general question. Why is it that in the spreadsheet some people got their PPR after 5 or 6 months, whilst others are waiting for almost a year without even change to "in process"? What is the difference? Is it because of some documents needed to make application complete, or some other reasons?

Can any of more senior people in the group answer this, thank you :) (And obviously by senior I mean senior in application, not in age :D)
If people have waited a year without going in process I would assume that they did not come back to the spreadsheet to update their information. After the Damascus VO closed in 2011 there was a huge backlog in Ankara, so if you are seeing dates from 2011 that could be the reason. Last year in the summer (June-Sept 2013) there was a strike at all Canadian Embassies and again that created delays.

But generally, like Mrs.KOR wrote, usually if a file hasn't moved in process for a long time it could be the officer had to request updated information from the applicant (new forms, additional proofs), the file was incomplete, the medical already expired and/or an interview has been requested.

Thank you Mrs. KOR for your comment. Is it true that the purpose of interview is to make sure about the relationship? And if the officer is confident about that, there would be no interview? Or there could be some other reasons for interview?
Can I also ask other people to comment on this. Thnkx!
Some times a visa officer will request an interview for another reason than authenticity of the relationship, but usually not so. In such a case they may call the applicant to clear up any information quickly - this has happened before to other forum users in the past (check an address, occupation, whatever.) But in most cases for Ankara the interview is requested if there are parts of the relationship in question (if you have red flags in your file: large age, education, socio-economic differences; married quickly after meeting; hardly any proof of relationship; no photos; different culture/religion, etc.)

Has any of you changed your phone numbers during the PR process?
My husband has changed his mobile phone number and we informed CIC Ankara by sending an online inquiry (via https://secure.cic.gc.ca/enquiries-renseignements/case-cas-eng.aspx?mission=ankara&_ga=1.120995592.1896149246.1370730794 )

Is this enough for them to update the phone number in his records? Should we have send an email to ankara-im-enquiry @ international.gc.ca or called the CIC call centre instead?? Can anyone who went through this please advise. Thank you!
My husband changed his email address during the process and we used the online inquiry form and they updated his email address as we requested. Definitely don't bother with the CIC call centre - once the file has left Canada they don't look after any more contact info, only for the sponsor not the person being sponsored. Mrs.KOR, you can always request GCMS notes again.

Thank you very much SooMazi. Such a detailed informative answer. Let's hope no one needs interview and everyone get their PPR :)

Thanks SooMazi, I am relieved then I used the right communication channel.
I will get the new set of notes next week but I doubt they will have anything new. It seems like our file has been abandoned since September... :(

Check the GCMS notes you have now. I believe somewhere on page 1 or 2 or 3 you will see something like PAPER FILE and under this you can see the location of the file. (Office: Ankara....Location: xxxx) The location of the file can give you insight. If you see some one's surname, that is the officer working on the file. If you see "HPT - Hold to request PPT" (PPT = passport) then you can assume PPR email will be coming within 1 or 2 months.

Paper File location says: "DOCS - Documents requested"
They requested an updated police certificate in September. And from the notes I see that they confirm receiving it, they added the police certificate to our file on Sept 11. And since then there is no news, seems like our file is abandoned. As seen even our paper file location hasn't been updated. According to our MP we are on the queue to be reviewed for background checks... God knows how long this will take...

To my knowledge VAC sends the passport to the embassy in Ankara. Once the visa is printed on the passport the embassy sends it back to the VAC and VAC forwards it back to you.

Your husband as a Turkish citizen will need a visa to enter the United States. Having a PR card does not give the option to enter the US without a visa. Usually, it's advised to wait for 3 months after you land to Canada and then apply for the US visa. I don't think he'll have any issues getting the US visa; given that he is already a PR of Canada and he shows that he has strong ties to Canada (such as a job, an apartment, banking accounts etc...)
