Anecdote: Border Crossing PR not Met Experience

About Me: Landed May 2015. Not even close to meeting PR obligations. US Green Card Holder

Crossed into Canada on June 23, 2023, for a vacation to Vancouver, Whistler, Victoria for my birthday. Entered through the Blaine, WA border crossing. Showed my passport as well as my green card. Was asked about details of my trip (vacation), how long I was staying (8 days), and the last time I visited Canada (Ontario 2018). The CBSA officer was happy with my answers and never brought up RO and waved me on through. I returned to the US on Canada Day.

I no longer have any current intentions to reside permanently in Canada, but since they waved me through; would I have been able to get back into RO compliance had I stayed 2 years without exiting?

Yes. Not having a current PR card would might make life difficult, such as not being able to get health insurance or a driver’s license (or a SIN if you don’t already have one), but if you stayed 2 years without being reported, you would be back in compliance with RO.
