An embarrassing immigration question...

Well, I had my medicals done while I was living in Germany. And I remember very clearly that I was not asked to get totally naked.
I had to take off my shirt for X-Ray, but that was all. I think I did not even take off my pants.
Apart from this, other tests were routine, like urine and blood samples, vision test, and some questionnaire about past and current health conditions.
In fact, this was much less invasive on my privacy than what I had to go through at Heathrow airport.
There I had to take off everything, though I was given a robe.
Still, for Canadian PR, I had more clothes than on my body than passing through immigration at a British airport where I was going as a temporary worker.

Unless they change the system, no - all PR channels require a medical.

I did my medical recently, all was done in a gown or fully clothed. At no point was it uncomfortable/embarrassing.

The medical requirement is Canada protecting it's own resources and interests, if it isn't something you agree with, perhaps look at moving to another country?

Even Australia and NZ have the same system.
In fact, the panel doctors for all 3 major Immigration streams, Canada, Aus, and NZ are same.
And they all use same testing system as well.

They are all the same all over the world. The exam requirements are controlled by Canadian government. The panel physicians only carry out the exam.

I had a very similar experience to the person who posted, and I had my medical in Canada. I never once took my pants off, I had to take my shirt off for the xray, but was allowed to keep my bra on, and wore a gown. I was allowed to change for the xray in a private area. There was nothing intrusive about the medical at all. I hope this helps ease your fears.

Unless OP has a specific concern with her medical condition..

The purpose of medical exam is to protect Canadian residents and/or its future medical costs.

You are making this process very very complicated by your assumptions. Different environment in England or Asian countries and different in Canada and they have right to do scrutiny to take care their citizens so relax and give your medical. You will be good

In your case, as you appear to have reservations if I were you I would request a female doctor. Also as another poster alluded to you earlier explain the situation to the doctor you see. they have every interest in ensuring you are comfortable with the process and you successfully undergo the required testing. I did my test in Canada and I would say the only time I had to remove my clothes was when I removed my shirt for the chest X-Ray. Apart from that nothing else during the testing process encroached on my privacy.

Hope you get the support you need. I think you're still quite far off from this step, so try not to think about it until then, or seek some help from people you trust. I think whatever random strangers on the Internet will tell you won't do much to ease your anxiety on this. Forget about it for now. You can bring a family member or close friend with you when the time comes that you have to do the procedure. I wish you the best.

I respect how you feel about it.

I agreed with others that it's best to find a female physician to carry out the exam.

It is part of the doctors' professional code of conduct that they treat you with dignity and respect while performing the exam. You can raise the concern to the doctor if you find any part of it uncomfortable.

as u said if ur sick ur open to get examined.

All u have to do is when you visit the approved clinic ask for female doctor and feel that ur sick for max 5 minutes. And by d way dont need to see ur private parts. I think only part exposed is chest for xray i think even for that ur there with gown.

n if u still feel call the approved clinic and ask the process thats it

Looks like this really differs from country to country (or doctor to doctor). I did mine in Singapore, and I did have to remove my underwear at some point. I don't remember if I was touched, but I did get asked to cough. If the OP does not have any unusual circumstances, then I suggest she work on her anxiety. Even if she does not have to do it now for this particular examination, it's something she will have to deal with later in life (from what I understand, an examination by a gynecologist could be very invasive).

Maybe it could be that they do it in Asian countries more than in our European countries with cool climate. You guys in Asia have a tropical climate with tropical diseases, so it could be that they're more strict there (like with the user who did it in Singapore?). But that's just an assumption and probably a silly one too...

Did it happen before or after X-Rays. If after X-Ray, then I would believe that something might have flagged in your X-Rays. I remember my doctor asking me to take deep breaths in and out when she asked me to. She told that if the machine does not flag anything, then they won't do detail test.

I also remember the same panel physician also did tests for AUS, NZ and US immigration. AUS and NZ are exactly the same like Canada. For US, there was one additional test, which I am unfortunately not able to recall at the moment.

Additionally, I would also like to add that while I had my medicals done in Germany, my wife had hers in India, as she was vacationing back home when we were asked for medicals. Her experience was exactly like me, she only had to take her top off and was allowed to have bra on.

Although I really could not understand your apprehensions about a routine medical check up, I really do not think anyone of us here can assure you any more than what we have already done.
It is now up to you to decide if you want to proceed or not.
