Amount to be carried to canada?

Hi friends,

I just want to confirm that how much canadian doller I must have to carry with me to canada?

Is 11000 $ is enough or is there any specified amount that I must carry with me?

I am PR visa holder...

Do they check on airport that how much money I have? travel cheque would be okay if i carry these amount in travel cheque form? Tell me any other way if any?

If you applied through FSW and you are single, childless and no job offer, you need $11,115, see http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/immigrate/skilled/funds.asp

You can carry a cashiers check made out to a bank in Canada or travellers check or some of it in cash. You must let customs know that you are carrying more than 10,000. It is not a problem, you just must let them know. You will also show it to immigration so they know you have brought your funds with you.

My question is that when and how I can tell to official that I am these amounts?

After landing to the canada or before?

According to http://www.cbsa.gc.ca/publications/pub/bsf5052-eng.html you actually must fill out a form.

When you arrive to passport control, tell them you are there to land and that you have more than $10,000 as requested. They should take you to landing. You can show them your form if they want to see it.

Do I need to take any signature of any officials on the form before landing to the canada?

What if i bring 9900 $ ?

Will they allow me to land to the canada with less than 11000 $?

i am single n don't hv any job offer..

If you bring 9900 you have not met your proof of funds. You should take the amount required for your proof of funds but make sure you tell them at passport control that you are carrying that much and show them your filled out form. If they say somebody else should get your form, they will tell you who.

One more thing is that Disclosure of funds is ONLY needed when I come to canada with Hard cash of more than 10000 canadian dollars?

I do not need to disclose if I come with 10000 $'s traveller cheques...

Is this theory valid or not?

Like it says in the instructions for the form you have to fill out, yeah, you do have to disclose if you have travellers checks as well. Why are you so afraid of disclosing? They will not take your money. They just want to know.

If i summarize our whole conversation, I will do it as below,

1) more than $ 11115 (some cash and other traveller cheques)must be with me..
2) fill the form E677
3) land in canada...on airport show the filled form e677 to officials..get it signed..
4) enjoy...!!

I have landed safetly in ontaio ,Canada..n no one took away my money as i had a doubt..Just filled e677 form n that's it..

But thing is that I have been searching for the job for many days..is there any placement consultancy or website to whom I must register.?

Please guide me further so that i can settle down..I got my SIN too..

You must have received a package when you completed your landing? If so, there should be information about job searching, etc. You can visit a YMCA or employment centre or immigrant settlement centres and go from there. Goodluck and welcome to Canada!!

You can also go to companies you might want to work for with your CV and ask if you can apply. Make sure you are reachable by cell phone if they try to call you.

In order to make sure you don't run out of money, it is a good idea to go for a survival job (low job) to make money while you wait to find something better. To find a survival job, it is also possible to take a bus through an industrial area and just go to places and apply. Some will have help wanted signs. You can also ask at gas stations, stores and fast food places close to where you live.

Never worry about applying for a job if you don't meet the requirements. A job ad is always a wish list. If they don't get anybody who meets all their requirements, they may take someone who meets some of them or someone who is eager to learn.
