How is everyone filing their US taxes from inside Canada? We use H&R Block usually but the prices are crazy. It would be a pretty basic tax return. Has anyone used Turbo Tax to file their US taxes from Canada?

Would recommend paying an accountant who specializes in cross border taxes at least for the first year. H&R black should not be doing cross border taxes.

The H&R Block here in Kingston has an American Tax specialist. He has been great to work with and there is not many options in Kingston Ontario. I am just looking for a cheaper alternative!

Paid a cross border accountant last year because it was the year that 5 months we were residents in the US and 7 months in Canada. And.... I would absolutely NOT pay again. My Canadian return mysteriously never got to CRA so I had to scramble in the summer to sort that out. Then my US tax return was returned unprocessed because she had us DocuSign it (i.e. electronic sign) and they needed it physically signed AND she forgot to include a tax doc so they questioned why one figure was $26. Then just got notice that somehow (on what should have been rather low US taxable income, with at least $3000 in taxes already paid from payroll deductions) instead of the $1000 refund we thought we were getting, we owe several hundred dollars. In other words she screwed up somewhere.

Anyway, I've been looking into tax software myself and hoping for recommendations. I used TurboTax when I lived in the US, but have been told it's difficult for expats by an expat who's been in Canada filing his own taxes for years. I'm looking into myexpattaxes but haven't heard anything from anyone I know about them..

That sounds like a nightmare. With H&R Block my wife got a confirmation that both were received.
