American Tourist Visa - "landed immigrant"

Landed 6mths ago- settling and not working. We planning a holiday to Florida some time in the summer. Havent booked yet becuase we need a visa. We also plan some day trips in the near future.

Is it ok to apply even though I dont have a job?
What do I do about the address issue , since we havent booked as yet?
What documents are required ? if any ie bank statements, bills etc
what are the chances of getting the visa?
How soon should I apply? plans are for July

Hi, Dizzy, Chances are very dim to get a US visit visa for a landed immigrant, even though you got the PR Card. Me and my wife applied last year after landing for visiting relatives in US but got rejected on the spot saying we don't have enough proof for close ties with Canada. So, I have to apply later.

You can try your luck, but I suggest settle down first with a job etc and apply after completion of a year in Canada.

I wonder if the situation would be different if you have lived in the US previously. In my case, I have been in the US for the last 10 years as an international student and now I am on a J-1 scholar visa. Once I move to Canada, I would certainly like to be able to return to the US to meet friends and attend conferences. I wonder if my previous history in the US would count towards anything if I apply for a US visa directly after moving to Canada.

Anyone out there have favorable experiences with the US consulate/embassy in Canada?

From experience, you shouldn't have a problem. You'd probably will get a 10 year multiple entry. Just make sure you take along all your old passports containing previous visa stamps. Just to to be on a safe side, prepare like you are attending a US visa interview like that was your first time.

Well well well,

My husband (PR Canada) has got his tourist visa to US last week to visit me. He has been living in Canada with a job for last one year. Previously he was living in US with F-1 visa. The US consulate in Toronto took 4 weeks to do security checks and has granted him multiple entry visa to US.

Ok, as far as Canadian embassy experince is concerned, I am a J-1 Visa holder in US, who applied for TRV to Canada last summer before filing the immigartion. I was able to provide sufficient evidence that I will come back to US to complete my Masters after visiting him in Canada. They granted me TRV for 3 months which was again multiple.

Now waiting for PPR since Nov 2009

When you re-enter US after visiting Canada, do you need to apply US visa again if you stay more than 30 days in Canada?

Ans 1: Well I did stay in Canada for more than a month but my US (J-1) visa was valid at that time. The second time I visited my husband was not more than 15 days. Intrestingly, my J-1 visa (not the DS 2019) and my TRV to Canada were expiring both on Dec 31st 2009. So to be on safe side I re entered US on 30th Dec, 2009

Ans 2 (for NG):
No I cam to US with J-1 visa and still am on the same status. My application is in process at Buffalo Office. I hope I get my PPR soon.
