Now, I know you must live together for 12 months continuously. Technically, we did live together, every day, for 22 months straight. However, it wasn't under the same roof.

We've been together for 3.5 years, but have mostly lived a travel lifestyle. Living here for 6 months, then travelling and living there for 3 months, etc.

Most recently, the longest we lived together under the same roof was for 10 months. Then we went on a two month road trip together camping. After that, we travelled extensively in Asia for 4 months. After that we lived together under the same roof for 6 months. Now, we are home in our own countries for the Christmas holidays.

Do you think we could be considered for the visa? Or, is it not quite "marriage-like" enough, the way we've been living?

I would love to know if anyone could shed some light on our situation. Was hoping not to get married for a few more years :D

All this time counts,no matter under which roof. You became common-law after living together for 12 months, i.e. on the 366th day.

It means you have to Live together for 12 months...doesn't matter if it was under different t roofs...You went and lived with each other all that time....you are good ;)

We were in exactly the same situation, but I was working 6/2 week rotations in Thailand. We travelled together in Asia and Canada, stayed in the same countries in the same houses for over a year. We applied, using the passport stamps to confirm the cohabitation requirement and got the PR. No muss, no fuss!
