Hello, I'll keep it short. I'm American my wife is Canadian, We got married a year ago. I was always under the impression that PR was for students/workers/etc. And that i would have to apply for citizenship...which takes 18+ months. Then I got to looking on the CIC site today and noticed PR cards are pretty much for everyone. Well basically I was wondering if this would would be a route to take so I don't have to wait 18 months to live there.

The highest schooling I have is Highschool i hold a diploma. No college so this PR card would be requested solely on having a spouse in canada.

Thank you for reading. ;D

You don't qualify for a PR card at this time. Your wife has to sponsor you for permanent residency as a first step. Apply outland. You could be done in as little as four months. Once you have PR you receive a PR card.

You don't qualify for citizenship either. To qualify for citizenship you must first become a permanent resident and then live in Canada for several years.

First apply for spouse PR. It will took some time

Second apply for spouse BOWP (pilot program), supposedly will be faster.

Then you're good to stay/work in Canada.

After get PR you'll obtain a PR card

Some years later you can apply for citizenship.

Other way to get a WP is applying for a NAFTA WP, if you need to work and met the requirements (easier than get a LMIA).

Ofor course you can come as visitor anytime

Thank you for the help guys. I will apply for my wife to sponsor me so i can acquire my PR card. This process is very intimidating I'm worried i'll be denied. I have plenty of pics of us together, plan tickets, phone records, etc. My background is also clean. The customs officer also said i'll be fine (I fly into a small airport when i go there so they know me). They also bring me into secondary all the time..she said i'm flagged but it won't hurt anything.

Also...this is a lazy question but, do i have to get a check up and apply for a FBI background check? I know its required while applying for citizenship but unsure about spousal sponsorship.

Thank you

Yes, you need a medical (done by a panel physician) and an FBI clearance.

I would suggest you head over to the Family Sponsorship section of the forum.

Thank you, I sent in my FBI background check today. Surprised it was only $18, it sounds expensive. Also the prints were free 8). However, I had to follow a jail guard through a jail to get them taken...was sorta sketchy. Then I called a physician for a physical (he is a panel member) $500!!! I guess x-rays,blood tests, urine tests, and a physical isn't free. Just hope they don't try sticking fingers in certain places :-X

I'm starting the application process. Do you mind if i message you if i have a questions regarding the forums they have you fill out? The way they word some of this stuff makes me feel like a need a degree in law.
